If you're looking for Singapore souvenirs, visit Bugis market opposite Seiyu. It's really Asia-like place even clean Singapore. Fresh fruits are also available. Go through the street, you can find Hakka Centre to eat something, Chinese Temple, and Sim Lim Square. Sim Lim Sq. is a place to buy digital gizmos in lesser price. Behind the building, cross the street, now you are entering Little India. Interesting area and worth visit.

Singapore is a great holiday location. Very clean and safe.
Take the MRT and public transport everywhere. Very cheap (S$1-2) and aircon'd.
Taxis generally cheap (S$5) except at 6pm for business close and 10pm for shopping close where traffic jams are common. Note be careful of taxi drivers trying to put on a short distance surcharge.
We paid $12 to get from changi to the airport and then another tried charging $7 to get from terminal A to terminal B.
Chinatown is great for the hustle and bustle and cheap eats. Plenty of sights to see and places to bargain.
Head to Clarke Quay for the satay club and some cheap shopping.
Boat Quay is average, overpriced and people trying to con you into their shops.
Stay clear of the taylor/electronic shop at the start of Boat Quay. Theyll try and rip you off wildly. $900 for a suit but because your special you can have it for $450. Head towards Orchard road and you can get better for $200.
Sentosa is a must. It is very commercial and costly but is Singapores version of Disneyland. Great free watershow at the end of the night (8pm). Stay for this and then get the cablecar back to the harbourside MRT and see the city lights.

Clarke Quay was hugely disappointing being under total renovation. Don't miss Happy Hour at Raffles ( SG $10 a drink ) from 5 - 8pm. Don't miss OG for general department store shopping ( esp Shoes ). Give Lucky Plaza / Tanglin shops a miss as they are now very dated. Great food hall at top of Raffles City ( far and away best we came across ). Take MRT and give taxis a miss.

Singapore was hot and humid but worth going to - went to Orchard Road, Chinatown, Little India, Bugis Village and Sentosa by train MRT system (underground)and by bus. Prefered the bus system as you can see things - all trains and buses are airconditioned and very clean. Did lots of shopping - be warned when buying CD's to read the small print as they are re-recorded by others! Gold is great to buy in Little India, and duty free was marginally cheaper at Singapore.

If you are considering having a suit made, the concierge will recommend Jack's Tailors (other expensive hotels seem to have a similar agreement with Jack) and a courtesy taxi will be provided. However, the price he quoted was three times the going rate and he didn't appreciate being challenged about it. Even before this, we didn't feel the premises or the service were anything special. In the same shopping centre (Far East Plaza), we found a lovely simple place called Penguin Tailors run by a friendly couple with reasonable prices and much nicer service.

Singapore is a beautiful place. It is hot and very humid. We took a city tour that was nice, but you don't get to spend too much time at the different locations were they take you. I feel the night safari tour package is expensive, and not worth $43 per person. You are better off getting there on your own, and paying $12 to do the night safari. I would recommend eating at the different food courts, because the food is good and is less expensive. Places you must go is Chinatown, Little India, you get to fully experiece these cultures. Singapore is really for shoppers. There is a mall at every corner with several floors. A good place to shop, which is on Orchard Rd and is not expensive is (Tang). We were able to buy diapers and other baby items at this store at really good prices. I also want to mention that every year between May 26 and July 28 is when all the stores have their big sale of the year. Taxi's are cheap, so you can take one to get around. Even though taxi's charged you more at night. The MRT was another way to get around, and not expensive. The Botanical Gardens is a very nice place to visit. Lastly, shop around don't buy the first thing you see, because you might find it less expensive somewhere else. Don't forget you can haggle with the vendors you see on the streets, some malls like (Lucky Plaza) Chinatown, and Little India, etc.

One interesting place to visit is the wet market in Chinatown complex basement. Morning time after 9:00 am is a good time to see fish, seafood, vegetable and similar items being sold is a typical Asian style market place. For food lovers, shops at basement of Takashimaya superstore at Orchard road can be a great destination. You can get all types of great tasting Asian and European stuff you want at very reasonable rates.

Great shopping, if your looking for cameras/electronics go to Sim lim square and sim lim tower, you must haggle the price down but there is tons of stuff there. Take the Mrt to Little india then take a 400m walk up the road. The zoo is a must see the staff at the hotel, they will tell you how to get there on the MRT, great place great pleople.

For food and shopping, Suntec City can't be beaten. Free shuttle buses available every 30 minutes from Swissotel made this an easy excursion. Quayside, a 5 min stroll from Swissotel, was also great for shopping and eateries. Would also highly recommend the zoo. Singapore is a fabulous place for a short stop and some quality R&R.

Always carry an umbrella. Shopping on Scotts/Orchard Roads - do not be afraid to walk into shops in malls on for bargains, there are often last-season items on sale but sale notice is not visible from outside. Chijmes - try to avoid on Fri/Sat nights, it is very crowded and hard to find a table in courtyard.
Hawker centers - Lau Pa Sat and Newton are overpriced. Excellent quality and value are at Food Junction @Bugis, Maxwell and Fountain Terrace @Suntec City.
Iced Coffee is black coffee with ice. Sporting equipment - must check out "Why Pay More?" at Suntec City, found golfing/tennis equipment at ebay.com prices.
Supermarket - items are cheaper in Carrefour at Suntec City/Plaza Singapura then any Cold Storage.
Sentosa Island - don't worry about it unless you have not been to a decent beach for awhile or you have kids. Merlion is closed for repairs from Apr-2004 for 4 months. Science Center - don't worry about it unless you have not been to a decent Science Center for awhile or you have kids. Night Safari - Shuttle bus service to hotels in city have been terminated, taxi is the only option.
