Singapore is a lovely city. Clean and nice. You do not get fooled by taxis, they drive on meter. Taxis have to pay tax when they leave the airport so you pay roughly 25 SD when you arrive and 15 SD when you leave.
Do not buy a package of tickets at Sentosa island. Just get there, and pay for the amusements you really want to see.
Want to dress your little grandaughter as a princess? Try Serangoon Road. Want open market shopping? Go to Bugis Village. Do not miss a Singapore sling at Raffles and a Sunday Brunch at Fullerton.

The location of the hotel seems far from the centre but yet we did walk back from the centre in less than 15 mins. There is a bus stop opposite the hotel after crossing a bridge in 5 mins, the buses go directly to the town centre and Chinatown. Walking along the river next to the hotel took us to different glimpses of Singapore that we had never known before, I'd lived in S'pore for the past 10 years. It is close to Clark Quay, a great place for a family outing. It is also not far from the antique market street on the River Valley road. On the other side, it is the well-known night spot for the discotheque and bar in Mohammed Sultan road. There is more to explore in this part of Singapore, I'd love to come back again.

In hotel is in the heart of the city and you can go left or right for next shopping center. I saw CHINGAY Parade and this is the new generation parade for young people for Chinese New Year. Go to Chinatown on New Year and enjoy the great magnificent flair. Little India is good for walking and compare computerware in Sin Lim Square. Also PC-ware for compare is FUNAN IT-Mall.

This trip to Singapore was more for business and meeting up with some old friends. We got around easily by walking, taxi or the MRT ( subway train ). The food court in the Raffles shopping city, just opposite the hotel, is great with a good variety of food to choose from. The garden restaurant/bar in Chijmes, also opposite the hotel, is a relaxing place with live music for drinks & tapas and other Mediterranean food. For 5 mins's walk, one will find the bright light busy night market Bugis that sells local's souvenirs & fresh fruits. From here Bugis Junction, one can reach easily the nice cosy department store & cinema. The other side is Sim Lim's Square for the computer maniacs. Another corner is great for the Buddhist followers with books, vegetarian food and worshipping accessories. The hotel itself looks typical but its location & the convenience in getting around will spoil you with choices.

As a matter of fact, because it was most of the time business as usual - I spent most of the time in shopping malls. Suntec City has everything you need. Outstanding shops, restaurants and a movie theater. Don't waste your time in visiting all the shopping malls. Yakashimaya (Orchard Road) and Suntec (Suntec City) have all the brands in a nice atmosphere.

Singapore is a perfect place for a short vacation. It is a hub for almost every international carrier. Changi airport is the best airport I have seen so far with lots of shopping, a movie theater, showers, massage, coffee shops, a variety of restaurants and even wireless internet access (for a low charge).
You can get from point A to point B in Singapore in less than an hour at any given time of the day or night since the traffic always flows smoothly. The public transportation is impeccable. I recommend buying an ez-link card at the airport so that you dont have to fish out change.
You absolutely have to try the shows at Jurong Bird Park, the Night Safari and the glass cable cars to Sentosa Island. We spent New Year's eve at Boat quay. You can get a candle-lit dinner by the river and then get a drink and dance in one of the many clubs lining the quay and then come out to watch the fireworks. Can't come up with a more perfect setting.
Coming from the US, Orchard Rd didn't quite impress me, though the labels are a bit cheaper if you are into shopping. China town is a great place for getting souvenirs. For food in Singapore stick to the food centers. They are cheap, clean and the food tastes awesome. You must try the Bbq sting ray at Raffles quay or Sentosa Island.
Everyone speaks English and is tourist-friendly so its very easy to get around. You can bargain at China town etc. but you are not going to get much discounts since the goods are already cheap. No one is trying to make a buck off you. One of the porters even refused a tip! Overall the most perfect vacation I have ever had.

Having lived in Singapore with our 2 children from 2000 - 2002 I was very keen to revisit old haunts, it was hard to choose where to go with only 1 day there but would highly recommend the following:
1) the zoo - excellent with wonderful play areas for kids on hot days (if you are there overnight or for more than one day DO try the night safari which is excellent).
2) the Science Centre - choose this if you're there on a rainy day - there's a Mcdonald's there and an IMAC theatre to keep all happy!
3) for shopping go to the Ngee An Centre with Takashimaya or Center Point or for something different try Tanglin mall and then Holland Village
4) The Bird Park is great if you have more than one day
5) Clark Quay is a nice place to visit for bars/restaurants and market stalls on the river
6) Bugis Village is the home of 'copy watches' and 'copy' just about anything!

If you are looking for electronic goods such as digital cameras and camcorders, go to Sim Lim Square. You will be awed by the number of shops that specialised in such goods, all in one building!

This was my first stay in Singapore. It seems to be little more than a city of shopping malls.
