Stayed at  Phoenix Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
The hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants and is attached to a department store (open until 9pm)

Fantastic city! As a lone woman traveller, I felt completely safe and received no hassle. Also, it is spotlessly clean and the advanced technology puts London to shame. If your into animals, the Night Safari (the world's first) at the Singapore Zoo is a must. Also recommended is the shopping on Orchard road, Clark Quay for a myriad of restaurants. Take the boat trip down the river at night as it is more beautiful to see all the buildings illuminated.

we did not go to batam for places of interest. we went there for shopping spree. it is just a walking distance. there are 2 big departmental store. the ramayana and robinson (indonesia version). these buildings are next to each other. robinson is more well organised. there are 3 storeys with supermarket on the 2nd floor. very cheap too. there's mc donald and kfc around the area. other shop houses selling leather goods, dried food, pharmacies. found one of the tailor shops. extremely cheap. workmanship charge for only SGD16.00 compared to Singapore that charge for SGD30.00 from the house and SGD80.00 from the shops. worth if you send a few (after adding with the ferry charges).

went to one of the halal chinese restaurant in nagoya mall, just next to melia panorama. don't even have to cross the road. the only halal chinese restaurant in that mall located at 2nd floor. nice ambience. one section with swings that act as their seats. something different and unique. food is also nice and reasonable.

Not good place for me. Too commercialized. AND not a good place for shopping.

Batam is NOT a tourist destination. That being said, it does have pubs, golf, an oily beach and duty-free shopping if you should somehow find yourself there. Taxis are cheaper on the street than arranged through the hotel doorman. Can take a taxi to Turi BEACH Resort for 50,000 Rp. & use their pool/ facilities/beach for S$10/day (Organize your return trip w/ the driver if you can). Nagoya City has decent shopping, but if you want more you can take a taxi to the BATAM CENTER for 15,000-20,000 Rp. NAGOYA has an interesting NIGHTLIFE (detailed information can be found on the web) Note that @ some pubs, beers can be relatively expensive (15,000-20,000 Rp). While in Batam; we visited Lucy's, The Ice Pub, & Wallabies.....

Singapore is a very clean and beautiful city, and is one of the places that would be nice to live in. If you love to shop it is definitely one of the places you should go too. Orchird road is the main shopping drag with a mix of high end stores and cheaper ones too. A must see is the new night safari! I've been to my share of zoos and this place takes top place. There is also a free animal show that is performed at various times of the day.

Fort Canning Park is just beside the hotel and it's so nice to take a walk there in the morning. Easy access to City Hall Station + Raffles shopping centre, too.

Singapore is one of our favourite cities. The night life is great, there are so many places to eat and drink both in the Orchard Road area and in Chinatown which is undergoing major renovations and upgrading. If you are looking for carpets or antiques then check out Dempsey Road. The old military base has been turned into a shoppers delight. Taxi's are plentiful and there is an excellent rapid train service round most of the main areas of the island.

Singapore was a nice place to visit some of the best food I had in Asia, even the food courts at the mall offered excellent food. Good shopping, some interesting sites like like little India. Cruising the canals give you a good feel for the city and you can see some nice sites and you really can walk anywhere.

Stayed at  Keong Saik Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
Walking along the river was enjoyable. I would also recommend the Art Gallery. It is small but quite interesting.
