Pattaya is a bustling resort, there was plenty to see and do for us as a family. We spent some time on the beach (but do not expect the beach to match those of Phuket or Koh Samui). Plenty of shopping and too many good restaurants to count. Our daughters loved shopping in the Royal Garden Mall, Festival Mall and the Mike Shopping Plaza. I would also recomend Nang Nual Restaurant at the end of walking street for excellent sea food. We visited the Tiffany transvestite cabaret which was well done and a good show and make a visit to Pattaya Park (Water Park) which was OK but looking a little tired. Overall a good destination and we enjoyed it as a family, however the nightlife and bars may be a little too in your face for some.

If you intend to do lots of shopping, stay in the South/Central Pattaya area. You can practially walk the entire street shops. If you prefer a quiter retreat, Jomtien beach would be a better option. Taxis (tuk-tuk) from Central Pattaya to Jomtien can cost about THB100 per couple.

Pattaya is a nice place whilst small city. There is not much to do. Only shopping (1/2 price of Bangkok! specially in 3rd street), beach (with all sport facilities for water sport lovers) and bars (for people who like that!). Taxi are very cheap (10, 20 baht depending to distance). Bike rental too. I think that one week in Pattaya is enough to visit everything.

We enjoyed visiting Pattaya again - having lived there in 1969/70. Of course the change is incredible - but we were prepared and not too shocked. It was fun to see the change - but a little sad to realize what has been lost.

We enjoyed visiting Watchaimongkol Market in addition to downtown Pattaya. We visited Pattaya Park and enjoyed the view of the area from the tower. We had a very nice visit to the Pattaya Elephant Village. We were there in the morning and thus, missed the shows (and the crowds) but thoroughtly enjoyed our elephant trek. It is a nice leisurely walk thru the surrounding countryside.

We did purchase the video tape that was made of our trek and were surprised to find that it included the shows that we missed seeing live. The only complaint about the video is that we were told it was in the US format and it wasn't. However we were able to have it converted for a reasonable price when we returned to the States.

We only had a day and a half in Pattaya and therefore didn't have time to enjoy any of the water activities - tho the offerings are extensive. The air conditioned bus from Bangkok (Eastern Bus Terminal) was very comfortable and efficient -and a good value (less than $5.00) .

Pattya is not a place for a family vacation. Great shopping, awesome food and scary nightlife!

Pattaya Thailand can be both exciting and relaxing. Kings restaurant, primarily sea food was awsome. Both the service and food exceeded my expectations. I also went on an elephant ride tour, again, awsome. Getting around was very easy via taxi and cheap too. In addition, I had two very fine suits made up at Michelle's and John's (two different places). Great price and excellent craftsmanship provided by both tailor's.

Pattaya itself very very busy. Not the ideal holiday destination if you want peace and quiet, but a shopper's paradise. Not the best place to go for those easily offended!

Pattaya is an amazing place - check out Beach Road for shopping, Pattayaland 2 for bars and Walking Street for late night entertainment. Marine 1 (club) on Walking Street is a must go if dance music is your thing followed by Marine 2 round the back if you still have the stamina. Do not pay more than 150 bhts for "taxi" from Cholchan to Pattaya - can get it for 100 on way back. Change up money in Pattaya rather than hotel as you get a much better rate.

If you are walking around after about 2.30am in the morning then be careful of stretch of pavement between Soi Pattayaland 2 and Walking Street as this is where the Ladyboys hang out in numbers - try not to go there alone and avoid making eye contact - they can get aggressive if they think you are looking at them "funny".

Expect to pay around Bhts90 for a bottled beer (about £1.50)in bars and clubs and 300 to 400Bhts will get you a very decent evening meal - plenty of good restaurants on stretch of Beach Road adjacent to Garden Plaza Shopping Mall. The atmosphere in the bars and clubs is just about the friendliest you will find anywhere with the ratio of pretty girls to men an average of 20 to 1. Enjoy!!
