The Emporium Shopping Centre (with great movie halls...check it out) provides a wide range of food and shopping delights, it's just two BTS stops away.

The night bazaar was disapointing. There was a lot of junk. Especially Japanese cheap plastic gadzilla toys. Chiangmai's market was by far superior with actual handicrafts and items fromt the hill tribes. The Bangkok market was trashy and the people not very friendly, which was shocking. Chiangmai's market was incrediable worth the trip up. Traffic in Bangkok was typical New York with the addition of TukTuks and about a million motorcycles. But the majority of the people were friendly and the Wats are incredible, ie..Emerald Budda. Our group preferred the outlaying areas.

You must bargain if you were to shop at the Patong beach area. Opening prices can be quite ridiculous, you'll be surprised that prices can be slashed by more than 50%. You may be better off going to other shops in the Phuket town locality. Ask "Tuk-tuk" drivers to bring you to these places (bargain with "Tuk-tuk" drivers too!)
Canoeing at Phangnga Bay is a must for nature lovers. We went with "Phuket Adventures" & had a jolly good time. The guides were a fun bunch of people who also took our safety seriously.

Siam square/Siam centre is good for trendy shopping, lots of nice (small) shops, young people! We loved walking around in China town to see/smell Asia.

Cha Tu Chak is a must-go place if you're looking for good and cheap stuff. A pity it's only open during the weekend.

Thailand/Bangkok has to be seen to believed. Try Chatuchak Market on Sat/Sunday. Take the BMT (light rail train) and get off at Mo Chit (last stop, or drive as we did. Yes, driving in Bangkok was a challenge, yet fun in a way. Make sure you have a navigator to read the map.
If you have a car, get out of town and see the countryside. Drive out to Chonburi, Sri Racha, Pattaya, Rayong. Lots fo things to see and the roadway (tollway) is the way to go.

For good bargains go to Chatachuk on the weekends. For excellent bargains and shopping go to MBK center. And if you want to pay European prices go to the Emporium. Great place for Crocodile leather, whatever they ask, only offer 1/3 the price, and you will get it.

We only had a couple of days in Chiang Mai, which is not enough. The night market offers different shopping than found in BKK, and the hilltribes are worth seeing, although are touristy.
