Stayed at  Mandarin Bangkok, The - Bangkok, Thailand.
Destination very good and very close the Patpong Night Market. By foot it takes only 10 minutes.

Stayed at  Asia Bangkok Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
We took 2 tours - one booked on arrival at the airport which took us through the canals of Bangkok. This included a visit to a snake farm. Interesting to see this side of Bangkok. The other tour took us to the Damnernsaduak Floating Market and The Rose Garden as well as a temple. These were all interesting to see and the lunch at the Rose Garden was very good value for money. This tour was booked through the tour desk at the hotel.

We also visited the Grand Palace and Teak House museum on our own. The rest of the time was spent visiting some of the night markets and shopping centres. The skytrain is good value for money and very clean and cool. Convenient having access to the station from the hotel.

A Chhabra 28 February 2003
Stayed at  Amari Boulevard Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
In 4 days/5 nights we saw the Grand Palace, Wat Po, and Wat Arun in old bangkok. To get there we simply took BTS to the river and took the river boat express. Beats hassling with taxi and traffic on roads.

Food is phenomenal everywhere we went. Try out the Suki Yaki in the supermarket across the street. We went to Cabbage and Condoms, a little bit on the trendy side. Food good too. And try the street side pad thai (25 baht 50 cents) and tastier than any restaurant in the US.

Take BTS to the Sala Daeng stop in Patpong for more fun. They have big malls, lots of restaurants and if you are interested yet another red light district (Amari blvd is a couple blocks away from one as well Nana Entertainment Plaza).

Sala Daeng is the stop to take if you want to see Thai Boxing. See maps. Show up at 5:30, Tuesday to get tickets for the 6,6:30 show.

The supermarket across from Amari is the best deal. You can get your bottled water/Singha beer/food/snacks for dirt cheap.

Stayed at  Montien Riverside Hotel, The - Bangkok, Thailand.
We arranged tours of the city along with tours outside the city. There are great restaurants everywhere you look. One I would recommend is lunch at Montien Hotel downtown. I have found clothing and jewelry to be excellent buys in Bangkok.

S Exshaw 22 February 2003
Stayed at  Dusit Laguna Resort Hotel - Phuket, Thailand.
We highly recommend visiting the other 3 resorts, all 4 hotels cross charge expenses, no need to carry cash. On the sea front, everything you need can be found by the local salers which will bend backwards to satisfy your request. Just outside the hotel you can rent Jeeps (opened or closed), motorbikes,... go shopping at "canal village" - the sales person are a bit "pushy" but all is negotiatable (?!).

On the sea front of the hotel you will find small "shops" which offer exactly the same goods at a more attractive price (clothes, cruises,...). Don't miss on the fruit platter that the little shops offer (EXCELLENT, refreshing, very cheap 100 Baht).

The hotel is 30 mns drive from Pathong - loads of shops - "gogo bars" - wonderful sea front. You must go on a "Tuk Tuk" (local cabs) - very cost effective, original, refreshing, quick. Within one hour (maximum) you have access to all the beautiful spots that Phuket has to offer, water falls, forests, sea fronts, temples, elephant trekking, orchids farms ....

A trip to Kho Pipi is a must, go on a speed boat (400 bhp) - no more than 20 guests at a very low cost (4000 Bahts) - includes everything (drinks, lunch, fruits, ...) - swim in the blue sea, feed fish, see "monkey beach". By now you gathered we can only praise the resort and the location. At no time did we feel insecure or anything.

M Uno (2nd call) 20 February 2003
Stayed at  Asia Airport Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Being one that loves computers, the location adjacent to the 3-story computer mall was an added feature. Also, it was close to fast food outlets (for families with kids) and also close to an open market and night market. The location seemed safe and not as "sex-oriented" as other parts of Bangkok.

S Lally-randall/j. lake 20 February 2003
Stayed at  Amari Coral Beach Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
What friendly people, everyone makes the effort to make you feel at home. Actually try to lean a few words and watch their faces light up with delight. Truly nice people.

Phuket is a great town, plenty to do from shopping, eating – even off the street stalls, which are very clean. There is every sort of nightlife from quite bars in luxurious hotels to dance and music bars in the centre of town. You should try the Gay district for a really fun and friendly night. There is loads to do if you can drag yourself out of the Amari Coral Beach.

We tried a trip to Pi Pi island, quite a rough boat trip on the way out but what a fabulous place no wonder they filmed the Beach there.

M Stibbe 20 February 2003
Stayed at  Asia Bangkok Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Our favourite shopping centre is the MBK shopping centre and our favourite street market is the Pratunam market. You can get some really good bargains in the back streets of the market.

Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai is a must see destination. You can purchase some amazing handicrafts at a fraction of the price you would normally pay in Bangkok.

P M. dubourg 18 February 2003
Stayed at  Sheraton Chiangmai, The - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Chang Mai is really worth to see. Night Market is recommendable for collectors of handicrafts and Asian antiques. Some very nice restaurants and a lot of possibilities for excursions in the mountains and to the borders of Myanmar and Laos. Recommendable are also the traditionnal Thai massages for 5-10 USD an hour.

L Alpert 15 February 2003
Stayed at  Tamarind Village, Chiang Mai - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Read the guidebooks. Be sure to take your time at the night market. Many of the clothing items I saw at the market in Chiang Mai and the Weekend Market in Bangkok I later saw for sale in small shops in Japan for five times the price.
