Stayed at  Suriwongse Hotel - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Very good Location in the Heart of Chiang Mai Newtown. Only a few Steps to Nightmarket and Anuarn market, the Old Town is reachable by walking. Donīt miss the Sunday Evening market in the Old town, surrounding the Tapae Gate.

Great area of Bangkok. Just about anything you want to see or do is here. Plenty of good restaurants and tailors. My favorite tailor is Peter Armani on SOI 11. I had not been there in 3 years and he still remembered me and had my measurements in his book.

I asked around for places to buy ladies office attire and was referred to Bo Bae and Pratunam. Bo Bae is a nighmare. I am a person who has a good sense of direction and even then I got lost and spend more than 20 mins trying to get to the exit for taxi! These places are more suitable for casual wear. I found what I wanted at Siam Discovery Center and Robinson. Foodwise, avoid Seafood market and Restaurant at Sukhumvit soi 24. The prices they charged is a ripped-off. No wonder when I was there, I only saw tourist and even then only Westerners. Guess the locals know better. When travelling as FIT, more concenient and cheaper to take the taxis as they are fairly priced.

Stayed at  Coral Bay Resort - Samui, Thailand.
On your first day, rent a moped for the entire stay. You can get from place to place easily, since Ko Samui is basically one main strip with resorts scattered throughout. Take a day trip to see the island's attractions...although the alligator / monkey shows were a bit grim for my taste. But the people who take you make up for it with their "mai pen rai" attitude ("nevermind" in Thai) and open smiles. Eat as much food as you can...Thai, Italian, and I had the best steak and caesar salad I've ever tried in Asia. The vendors were less aggressive here than they were in Phuket. It's amazing what you can get for your dollar...we couldn't even spend all the money we brought! I had a few hours in an upscale spa...where I tipped the girl way more than needed, simply because she made me feel something beyond "relaxed". Take the time to venture into the alleyways that shoot off from the main strip..it's where the more interesting shopping (and personalities) are. There's also a Boots Pharmacy, where you can easily stock your bathroom for the next year for under $50...everything you ever saw in a Western pharmacy / drugstore. Bring extra luggage, because you will buy every gift you ever needed. Finally, don't forget to save $15 per person for the departure tax the day you leave. Lots of surprised people in that line-up!

I used the Taxi-meter from the Phuket airport. It's much cheaper than using the service at the airport counter. We went for land tour (book a taxi) for sightseeing and shopping. Remember to always bargain the price even though it has a price tag on it. We learnt pretty hard way in our first day. Shopping at Muslim fisherman village (recomended by the tour guide) near the James Bond Island was the best deal, however.

We bought Thai Silk about 1/3-1/4 of their opening price. We booked two tours to Phi-Phi, Maya, Khai islands and James bond island. We went to Patong Beach at night using Tuk-Tuk from our place (again, have to really bargain the fare). There are many tuk-tuk around, so don't rush and you'll get the best deal. Near our hotel, there are some nice seafood restaurants. One of them is owned by German (can't remember the restaurant name). The food is superb and cheap. Finally, one slight negative experience was when we went to nearby shop to buy souvenir and saw that the shop attendant tried to short the changes. Please always count the money given to them and importantly the changes. Have a great and enjoyable trip !

Stayed at  President Solitaire - Bangkok, Thailand.
Great location. If you do not want to be sidetracked into shopping on one of the river tours check the brochure in your room for the one that says specifically "no shopping". Most of the river/canal tours stop 2-3 times for shopping and then take you to the Gem Expo. If you just want to see the temples and palaces take the "no shopping" tour listed in the book. ASK them if this is a shopping tour.

Siam Square is just a few minutes away which is perfect if you are looking for huge department stores and western restaurants/fast food etc. The Skytrain connection to the hotel is an excellent facility - I particularly recommend using it to go to the Chatuchak weekend market on Saturdays and Sundays. The market is enormous and very colourful and very Thai indeed and it is nice to be able to get the Skytrain there, immerse yourself in the madness for a few hours and then get the Skytrain back to your nice air-conditioned room to have a shower!

MBK is a great place to shop, Suan Lum Night Bazaar is definitely a better place to shop than Patphong as shop owners are less pushy. Chatuchak is always a weekend favourite.

Stayed at  Amari Coral Beach Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
I liked Patong. We went jet skiing and parasailing, which were fun. The food is good and pretty cheap, there are lots of places to shop, plenty of party destinations, although a lot of the girls you will meet at these clubs are trying to get paid. My friend went golfing, which he said was tough given the heat and humidity in late August. You can get very cheap DVDs at the local shops for about 100 baht ($2.50US each).

I love Bangkok. Have been there many times & would definitely go there again in the next 3 months. Shopping is wonderful - don't miss Chatuchak Weekend Market, Suan Lum Night Bazaar, Pratunam Shopping areas as well as MBK. Food is yummy & spicy. People are generally friendly but beware of tuk-tuk/ taxi drivers who will bring you to gems/ clothes factories in order to get commission off whatever you buy. Make sure they know you want to reach yr destination without any unscheduled stops along the way.
