I rented a car and went from Santiago to Valparaiso and Viņa del Mar...first one very personality, interesting and historic port, second one, beautifull coast without sand. All the visit takes 8 hours at all.

Santiago is a great destination, especially during September's independence celebrations - national music, dance and foods. Great! People very kind, civilised and pleasant. Excellent fruit and wine. Llama & alpaca goods, and lapis lazul jewlery of excellent quality and reasonable prices. My wife and myself enjoyed every minute in Santiago.

The subway system in Santiago, Chile, is excellent. It is cheap, clean, fast, efficent, very safe and user friendly.
The Pre-Columbian Art Museum is World Class and the ambience of the Plaza de Armas is pleasing. The Moneda Palace is beautiful and the statue of Salvadore Allende is a poignant reminder of the 1973 coup by Pinochet. The vehicle-free downtown streets and shops are a delight to shoppers and gawkers. The San Cristobal and Santa Lucia Hills are both worth a visit. The Lapis Lazuli House in Bellavista District is nice. The Prego Italian Restaurant near Parinacota Hotel is excellent.
