Baden-Baden is a well-kept spa town with luxury shops and hotels, a famous casino, and many old people.

We spent 5 1/2 weeks in Germany and Sweden, and 12 days on a Viking River Cruise in Russia, London, & Italy. We really enjoyed everything but don't feel like we need to return to Russia or Italy again. We loved it all but would like to return to Sweden & maybe Germany to see more. We rented a car in Sweden but otherwise took the Metro or Tube. It gets you around but also takes a lot of time to transport yourself. in

Stayed at Holiday Inn Dusseldorf City Centre-Koenigsallee - Duesseldorf, Germany.

Dusseldorf is probably an underrated destination for many tourists, but this is really a place for leisurely shopping for high fashion, and the pace of life here is much easier than most German cities. It is easily accessible by direct high-speed trains (about 1.5 hours) from the Frankfurt airport.

We travelled by car from Munich to Tuscany in Italy and back to Munich. We particularly enjoyed Venice and the Tuscan wine country. We also had great alpine climbing adventures in the Dolomites.

I went to Konstanz to Garmish by car. However, road signs were not very good and
I was lost several times. Since Garmish is surrounded by mountains, it is a trouble if you miss the road. Study maps and watch road signs very carefully.

Stayed at Schweizer Hof, Hotel - Baden-Baden, Germany.

Baden Baden is a great little spot, but on the pricey side. We enjoyed the Carcalla Spa, but the shops were expensive. I would highly recommend it to older travellers who are looking for a quiet, and relaxing detination. And the surrounding area is magnificent. We enjoyed the castle ruins nearby - definitely worth the stop.

Stayed at Reindl's Partenkirchner Hof - Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.

Garmisch is a ski resort. In the summer, it is quiet and uncrowded. We had a most relaxing and comfortable time. I highly recommend taking the special train to Zugspitze, the highest point in Germany at 2963 meters in elevation. The view along the way was spectacular. Do spend an hour or two at Eibsee, a lakeside resort, for tea or coffee on the way down.
