Berlin is a gracious city. Hang out in the old East, it is still more hip.

Stayed at Steigenberger Esprix Hotel Hahn Airport - Frankfurt-Hahn, Germany.

Ryanair is an affordable--"no-frills" air lines but just what we like. We have traveled to many large cities and find that our best times are at smaller places with less congestion. Our trip to Hahn has been one of our best trips. The weather was cold and rainy but the people and facilities made for a warm place. The food at the Hahn airport was superb and the prices were the best for all of Europe.

Stayed at Schlosshotel Lisl - Bavarian Alps, Germany.
|
This area is very touristy, and I would not recommend staying for more than two nights. We enjoyed our stay and also the castle, but quite honestly, the castle is most impressive from the outside, not the the interior. I would definitely recomment the horse-drawn carriage ride up to the castle. There is also a nice hike to the Marion Bridge that spans the valley nearby. You can detour from the castle on the way up or down about a 15 minute hike to reach the bridge.

Stayed at Munich Airport Marriott Hotel - Munich (Region), Germany.
|
The hotel is not close to the S-bahn so you will probably need to catch a taxi there. Once you get to the station the advice is to buy the 1-day ticket which will get you around the Munich public transport.

Stayed at Apart-Hotel-Sehnde - Hannover, Germany.
|
Went to Hannover every day - and from there we took train to Berlin on one day.
Didn't go to any of the local restaurants - there were quite a number - because we preferred to 'eat in'.
Our travel was by train, and there was a train to Lehrte (where you had to change for Hannover) every hour and the connection at Lehrt was excellent.

Stayed at Schlosshotel Lisl - Bavarian Alps, Germany.

From the hotel the castle -Neuschwanstein- was easily accessible. We actually took a bus tour (Bus Bavaria) from Munich to get transportation to Hohenschwangau. The tour was really excellent as they showed us around the outside of the castle, took us to an alpine lake, and also obtained the tickets to the castle for us. Everyone on the bus except for us went back to Munich at the end of the day. We stayed as we had reservations at the Hotel Lisl. This worked out really great. The tour was 49 Euros/person but apparently the train would have cost between 28 Euro to 45 Euro for 2 people. So it was a great deal. I definitely recommend the tour as not having to wait in line for the castle tickets probably made it alone worthwhile. Definitely bring your swimsuit if it is summer as the lakes are so beautiful and if the cold water doesn't bother you, you will want to swim in them.
