Venice is very beautiful and romantic in every sense. I enjoyed going to concerts every evening. San Marco Church is a must to visit. Gondola does not look romantic any more.

Going off season, Venice was not crowded. We opened the Academia on Sunday morning by getting there at opening time. Crossing the Grand Canal by traghetto is like traveling on a gondola, only the real thing, shorter, and only 40 pence. Recommended.

No noise or pollution from cars, buses etc. You can walk almost everywhere, and get a boat the rest of the way. If you're over 40 don't go to the Campo St. Margarita for dinner!

The hotel is perfectly located near San Marco. Easy to get anywhere. We bought passes for the boats so we could get on and off at whim. Makes it easy to explore all of Venice without getting beat walking back.

Venice is a lovely place and easy to get round. The train service from Mestre is easy to use and quite cheap. We also visited Verona by rail from Mestre which was easy to do and very good value. Bepe's Restaurant in Mestre was recommended by the hotel barman and was excellent.
