Late at night there is nothing to eat near the hotel, trust me. I tried. And don't linger around the hotel, it's really not safe. Well for cheap and good food, you have to take a cab to "DA MA". It is where they have the cheapest and best food. But not all are good, so good luck. Just a reminder, I didn't say they are clean. But believe me, some good food are not clean. You can try their "mud wrap chicken". Just chicken wrapped in dry mud.
The World famous "7-11" is along the way to the hotel, where I stated earlier. Just a 10 mins walk. For those who don't know what's a "7-11", it's a 24hrs store for your daily needs.

Since I was driving, I could go around where I want to. But this time I was merely confined to the room as I had to finish some work. But there are places where you can go around to taste the different local food.

It is not far from Singapore. It is about 5 mins drive from the Johor Immigration and there are many shopping malls near the hotel. Next to Mutiara Hotel is the ever popular Holiday Plaza where you can find anything and everything to bring home. I understand that the hotel provides a shuttle bus to other popular shopping malls.

Johor Bahru taxi drivers are very bad, they cheat and ask for extra fare. But since I am not familiar to the use of buses, no choice, had to use taxi.

If you have business in JB, then you have to be there. If you don't have business it's difficult to think of any reason to visit the city, which in besides being without character, enjoys the highest prices in Malaysia, courtesy of its proximity to Singapore.
