The hotel has a free shuttle to the Sarawak Cultural Center, a theme park whiuch features the major cultures of Sarawak inclding structures, artifacts, performances, and craft demonstrations. There is also an inexpensive shuttle that goes from the Holiday Inn Kuching to the Damai Beach.

The hotel is only 10 minutes walk from the Sarawak Cultural Village, and there is a very good tour operator based in the hotel. We went on the daytrip to the Iban Longhouse and it was excellent.

There is a cute open-air restaurant with good food along the river walk in front of the hotel; and try the open-air sea-food hall a couple of blocks behind the hotel. (Tablecloths and smiling waitstaff sets this place apart from others in Asia.) There are several stalls selling seafood. I recommend Ling Loong Seafood Center. A huge meal of four overflowing dishes of buttered prawns, woked veggies, softshell crabs, a whole sea bass, and beer for two came to MR 66 (US$16).
I went into the adjoining shopping center to find a 128mb flash card for my camera. The first shop couldn't help, but a man overhearing my question sent me downstairs. (Did I say the people here are friendly and helpful?) On the third try, I finally figured out that the gal at that shop was telling me to go "opposite McDonalds."
I couldn't find it so I went into a mall across from McDonald's and asked again. This time, another gal said "Next to Pizza Hut."
I went outside, couldn't see Pizza Hut, but found a camera store. They had a selection of flash cards (try that in Peoria) and I bought the one I needed. As I left, I looked up and saw that I was... next to KFC!
McDonalds, Pizza Hut, KFC! Was I really in Kuching, Sarawak, on the island of Borneo?! Anyway, I got my flash card. :-))

The location is nice, but the beaches in the region have potential sanitation issues! Bako National Park, Semonggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and Kuching are all worthy of visits and are nearby. The Sarawak Cultural Village is within walking distance, and is also worthy of a visit.

Easy 45-minute drive from Kuching. But immediate local area not fully utilised or tied in. Eg rainforest resort, Pasir Pandak, though Buntal for seafood was very good.

I went to all three resorts namely Damai Beach, Damai Lagoon and Santubong Resort. After visiting these tree resorts I still prefer Damai Beach. The sandy beach which located just a walk away is very attractive compare to Damai Lagoon. You should try the swimming pool located on top of hill where you can see the South China Sea while swimming.
