We spend most of the time in Melacca at the old town. There is a number of museums and historical sites. Especially the museum in the old Dutch "Stadhuys" was very interesting, telling the story of Melacca from the very first beginning, to the present. Also a walk in the old town is like walking through the history.

Located strategically near Pizza Hut, the infamous Tan Kim Hock food products centre (where any local Malaccan/Malaysian food could be found) and chicken rice balls.
One does not need to be afraid of lack of public transportation. Most of the places of interest in Malacca are within walking distance, say 1km. To add spice to life, you can hop on to a trishaw, peddled by friendly locals...a scenario that is almost extinct in other parts of SE Asia. Remember, the cost of taxi and trishaw should not exceed RM$10 within the parameters of the city area. Try not to get on to 'too fanciful' tricycle rides...

Malacca is a place with quiet charms. If you are used to Southeast Asia, you'll enjoy sitting by the sea (in the Portuguese Village or at the beaches north of the city) and drinking a cold beer while the sun sets over the straits. The midday sun is beastly hot, however. And transport is not easy, unless you have your own.

Meleka is an interesting town. The Sultan's residence it is a must, as the Stadshuis and St Paul's Hill. The hand of Saint Francis Xavier statue should be replaced. If not, shows either disrespect or negligence by the city Government.

Great stop over ... slower pace than KL .... Trishaw rides was great fun but it cost the same as a taxi ride .... The taxi fare was a big tourist ripoff scam as it cost $10 ringgit however short the distance... especially if you were coming or going from a hotel. It was understood by all to be the case and therefore even the trishaw peddlers charge the same.
The city square is the hub of the tourist attractions eg the Formosa, the Chapel, Jonka St... but you should try not to be out and about in the midday heat ... phews! Find the swimming pool.

Have not visited any posh restaurants as I am more keen in the local food which are what makes Melaka famous. Visited the restaurant at Jalan Bunga Raya, opposite the Mimosa Hotel. Food is ok, but beware of overcharging. I was overchargeg for the plain white rice (3 bowls instead of 4) but managed to claim back this small amount of 70 cts. But later discovered that one dish of mixed vegetables which was not served but was charged RM10.00.
should have taken the dinner at the roadside stalls. The food looks tastier.
Anyway, visited the Portuguese village but the food at a restaurant there was good. So would not recommend anyone there. However, had not dined at the side stalls which shows good fresh fish and crabs. These stalls may serve better food and might be cheaper.

Melaka is a very interesting place for tourists. The old Portugese and Dutch setlements are in very good condition and historical interesting. From the hotel it is only 15 min. walk down to the historical sites.
