We personally rented a car from KLIA and drove to Lumut. The roads in Malaysia were fantastic - better than I expected - and better than Thailand. The drive took about 2- 2 1/2 hours. We parked our car at a school around the corner from the Pangkor Laut's office for about US$2/day.
Before we visited this island, we went to the Cameron Highlands - a completely different (and also recommended) experience. We stayed at the Lakehouse, which was a very different type of hotel versus Pangkor Laut.
After we returned from Pangkor Laut, we then drove back to KL and stayed there to end our trip. All in all, I would highly recommend visiting Malaysia. The people, food, and scenery were outstanding.

The hotel is located on Pangkor Laut Island, beside Pangkor and only has one resort, which makes it so special and a private escape. The main beach, Emerald Bay is a small bay housing a beautiful beach, however I personally found some beaches located on another island in Malaysia like Langkawi better, as Emerald Bay is considerably small.

It is quite a hike to get to - 3 1/2 hours from KL airport by road, then 1 hour by ferry. Worth getting up early in KL in order to catch the early ferry. The ferry leaves at set times so it is not very flexible. We looked into taking a helicopter - but sadly not being tycoons could not afford the US$3000 one way ticket from KL!!!

Pangkor Laut is a beutiful Island. I recommend having Dinner-on-the-rocks in Emerald Bay. Watching then sun go down while being in this beutiful location was very romantic. A massage at the Spa Village is also a must.

Pangkor Laut is a resort island and the restaurants are excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Uncle Lims, which is a fantastic dining experience.

Do not miss the complimentary jungle trecking with "Uncle Yip." It is a great way to learn more about Malaysia's abundant nature.

A great destination for a relaxing beach holiday where your every whim is catered to. All of the restaurants on the island are high quality and the wine lists are very impressive for a relatively remote location.
There are a number of activities such as jungle walking, tennis, squash and watersports available but chances are the beach will be a more attractive option. Even during a week's stay in the "rainy season", we only experienced rain twice, both occasions at night.

Pankor Laut is a truly beautiful island teeming with wildlife who are unthreatened by the nearness of humanity. The beach was fantastic with clear clean water. There were plenty of activities such as snorkelling and island hopping as well as sunset cruises and romantic dinners on the beach. I understand there is a great golf course very near but it was closed on the Monday the only day we were able to go. There are other water sports such as windsurfing and hiring little boats etc. There was a gym and three swimming pools although one is exclusive to the spa.

Choice of meals are limited and pricy. Uncle Lim's kitchen has been given too much publicity. While trying to emulate the typical chinese order and serve modus, it is quite apparent that staff are simply rattling the same choices to everyone. Found that the Royal Bay Beach dinnning was better and with live music too.
Am not entirely sure that Pangkor Laut has any "extras" compared to Pulau Pangkor apart from much hiped exclusivity.

Very important: the bay hill villas are not safe for small children as they can easily fall through the cracks and fall very deep (life danger). The sea villas are obviously not safe for the same reason but the hotel never places families with children there. This should be extended to the bay hill villas.
