Good hawker food at Persiaran Gurney. Don't miss taking a walk along the seafront after dinner though.
Kek Lok Si temple has become so commercialised it is not worth visiting other than perhaps a cursory look from a distance. Besides having to walk though a narrow covered passageway with shops lining it in order to get to the temple, the temple itself is charging for everything, even to visit its pagoda.

Very close from the hotel, are a variety of restaurants, that, everybody will find what he likes. There are some attractions in Penang (Cable cart at the hill, Museum, Malls), but the best thing I enjoy is the sea sports, body and foot massage and total relaxation.

Batu Feringhi not very nice. The night market is ok but would stay next time in Georgetown which is much more interesting. Nothing much to see in Batu Feringhi, sea is not clean and sand rough so better to swim in hotel pool. We saw almost nobody swimming in the sea.
Penang is nice. Lots of old colonial buildings, relaxed feel, woth going up Penang Hill. Good food and Gurney Drive food market worth a trip.
Would visit again though 2-3 days there is long enough to see everything.

Much of the area is noisy and run down, while the hotel provided a veritable haven.

Only did the inhouse tours. Found that some of the information on the other organised tours was not as stated on the brochures i.e. no group tours only able to hire private car which make the tours far too expensive for holiday makers from NZ! The mini van service into George Town was great but could have been more frequent - would also recommend that the pick up address in George Town, together with a map, be noted on the mini van ticket.

Penang is an interesting island with beaches, culture and good infrastructure. We enjoyed it as much as Bali and Phuket.

The hotel is the last on a strip of many, and it is perhaps a 5-10 minute walk to the night market and quite a few good restaurants. We would highly recommend "Jasmine's Kitchen", and there are many other great spots. We tended to choose the ones that were more reasonably priced less flashy and had terrific meals. The walk to this area from the hotel is along a busy road with narrow "sidewalk" which is fine for adults, but perhaps a bit of a concern with children. In terms of the beach, it is not very wide and there were many jellyfish warnings around--so no one seemed to be swimming at all along the entire northern part of Penang's beaches.

Although somewhat built up in recent years, Batu Ferringhi is still a desirable location. Easy to relax, beautiful views, not too crowded. Never a lack of things to do in Penang! We recommend renting bicycles for the scenic ride to the newly-built batik factory and butterfly farm. Ocean was warm but the fact that NO ONE else was in the water made us wonder about the presence of pollution.
