Easy and cheap to travel by taxi. Lucy's Oarhouse is a good place to eat for Westerners.
Golf courses highly recommended.

This is NOT a holiday-destination. But for businessmen a very good hotel.
And...... by boat 45 minutes from Singapore.

We visited Batham centre which is a good place to shop
and liqour is very cheap but do not try to take it to Singapore
as there is checking at Singapore customs and also try as far as possible to use hotel taxis.

Nagoya is not really the place to recommend, esp. if you are coming from Singapore. The difference to the cleanliness in Singapore is huge.
If you want to see Batam island, take a tour with a driver (available at hotel desk - I had very good experience with Mr. Jonda!). Waterfront city (a "tourist resort") was somewhat disappointing, but the trip in general is worth the money - if you have the right driver.
Lucys Oarhouse as well as Sugar Pub are good places to spend the evenings. Avoid the local discos as long as your are not used to absolute darkness, heavy smoke and very loud "house music".

Poor local shopping with too many "copies" being sold. Cigarettes and alcohol are probably the only bargains to be found locally in Nagoya. Taxi drivers are a bunch of charlatans with one fellow tentatively asking S$100 for a five minute drive from the ferry terminal building to the hotel - real cost less than S$10!!
