The beach is a bit dirty on the afternoon. But is clean on early morning. It is good if they can clean the beach every few hours.

Bintan is a quiet destination, for anyone wanting total relaxation. Can recommend the banana boat and the shopping village, Oleh Pasah Pasah.

There are a lot of activities availiable if you want to participate, not that we did :). It's a great place if all you want to do is relax in the sun too.

The main restuarant at the hotel, SPICE - had a good spread of local and western dishes. The shuttle service ferries you between the three hotels in the Nirwana compound, so you pretty much have facilities, food and fun fully covered.

The beach was superb, although the water is certainly not as blue and clear as they would have you believe in the adverts. But the surf was great fun!
I would not recommend the Pasir Oleh Oleh 'traditional village' which was nothing but a series of shops selling very touristy stuff. If authenticity is what you want, rent a jeep/car and explore further a field in Bintan.
There was nothing great about the Kelong restaurant; food was OK but pricey.

Beautiful resort. However if you like to see something of the island you have take 3 different public buses to get to town, it takes about 1½ hours. The hotel doesn't provide a simple transfer to town like most (luxury) hotels around the world do.

We took one tour that we highly recommend: it was a night boat tour of a mangrove "swamp." The trees on the riverside were filled with twinkling fireflies, giving a Christmas-like feel to a tropical setting. It was magical and my seven-year old son loved it.
There was one restaurant we highly recommend because of the fresh seafood: Kelong restaurant.
