S Moffitt 15 October 2004
Stayed at  Bintan Lagoon Resort - Bintan Island (Indonesia), Singapore.
Bintan is a great location, as it is within easy reach of Singapore (1hr), yet resorts did not give us the impression of being crowded (We sayed through the week, and assume that weekenders flood in over the weekends). Transfers were easy despite having to get a visa to enter Indonesia at the border. Would suggest that you have correct money to buy visa (US25) ready when you arrive on the island.

Stayed at  Crown Hotel at Orchard - Singapore, Singapore.
Having just completed a three week business trip from Australia, to Singapore, then Malaysia, then the US (LA and San Francisco) and then back across to Hong Kong and Shanghai, I experienced the best and the other of hotels, service and airlines. Best travel part was travelling again with Cathay Pacific. CP is an airline that still provides good service, on time travel and a feeling that they do care about their paying customers. The US side was "interesting: with the level of customer service at the point where we were over serviced and this became very grating. One dinner was at the point where we were asked no less that 8 times during our main course "was everything OK", "do we need anything", etc etc. Considering that it was a business dinner, the continual interruptions were not so good. Finishing up in China was, as always, both interesting and amusing. One hotel, when asked to sort out a problem with the room air conditioner, sent up two staff to poke and prod and then turn around and open a window and announce that the air con was "fixed". No amount of discussion could resolve the view. All in all, an interresting way of looking at things.

I Loste 11 October 2004
Stayed at  Raffles The Plaza - Singapore, Singapore.
Not my first time in Singapore but I take time out to write because I was so happy about the hotel deal we got. Our hotel could not have been at a better location. We took mrt from the airport and got off right under the hotel. Although our trip was short (3 nights), we got to see lots because of how central our location was. We walked via underground tunnel to the Esplanade to watch Mamma Mia, and afterwards strolled the vicinity of Esplanade mall from which we saw the Merlion and a weekend outdoor concert.

The following day, it was only a couple of stops to the Sentosa cable car station. Unless you're with kids, it's sufficient to buy cable car tickets and tickets to Underwater World, which for me was the only worthwhile attraction (the monorail tour of the island which is free with admission will already be sufficient tour and get you to the beaches and gardens). From the hotel, there are lots of shopping and dining choices. To catch the local flavor though, take mrt to chinatown (about 2 stops) and shop for cheap trinkets and souvenirs.

Walk two blocks to Maxwell Food Center (hawker's center) to taste the best of Singapore street food. This experience for me is better than any five star dining on the island. Here, go for Hainanese chicken, oyster cake and truly authentic Straits cuisine. Don't forget to try the different local beverages like the Bandung, barley, lime and sugarcane juices popular here. And at $1.20 Sing, try them all and have your fill. Don't expect much in terms of ambience, this is a food court. But if you're looking for an authentic experience, don't miss this. Only other place that rivals this is the Black Pepper Crab of Eng Seng Restaurant. This is an open air eatery at Joo Chiat Place. No ambience. Expect the server to be impatient and growl at you (her demeanor I heard is already legend here). Expect to line up at least 45 minutes especially if you're a big group. But yes, as you can guess, the ordeal is well worth it. Joo Chiat is $6 Sing by taxi.

As mentioned, the location of our hotel is the best part of this last trip. Finally, go see Fullerton Hotel. This is a gorgeous landmark. We didn't catch their chocolate buffet which happens Friday and Saturday nights but heard it was good. We had weekend high tea at the Regent Hotel instead. It was their version of the chocolate buffet. Ok, but rather pricey for just ok. Lots more we saw and did (including Night Safari by mrt), but best of all except for Night Safari, everything was ten minutes walk, two mrt stations or $6 cab ride tops from our excellent hotel at Raffles the Plaza for which we got an incredible deal right here at asia-hotels.com!

Stayed at  Fullerton, The - Singapore, Singapore.
The restaurants at Indochine just opposite The Fullerton have created a lovely outside dining experince, with live Jazz, singers and comfy sofa to retire to after dining - all under the stars.

Stayed at  Swissotel Merchant Court - Singapore, Singapore.
Situated on the riverfront, there are many restaurants to chose from at either Clarke Quay or Boat Quay. Quayside Restaurant at Clarke Quay is expensive and the food average, but the small hawker market provides great food for average prices. Arab Town is the best place to buy cloth and beads; China town for Chinese novelty items, and good Chilli Crab can be had almost anywhere, but do try the East Coast Fish Market for fresh fish dishes. Reverse marketing occurs in Singapore i.e. peanuts will be at the table when you sit down, and unless you resquest that you don't want them, you will be charged. The Singapore Sling at Raffles at S$18 is overpriced and not the best - the mix is prepared in big quantities.

K Ng 27 September 2004
Stayed at  Traders Hotel Singapore - Singapore, Singapore.
Dan O'Ryans for good ribs, Ding Tai Feng at the Paragon for delicious juicy Shanghainese dumplings and Baker's Inn for a chocolaty spread of desserts.

D Bertacchini 27 September 2004
Stayed at  Keong Saik Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
It was very close to China Town (5 mins) where we found some great clothes shopping bargains, and a great variety of food to choose from. We also could walk to Orchard Rd (about 30 mins) where we found the shopping excellent.

M Nathoo 25 September 2004
Stayed at  Peninsula Excelsior Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
I would recommend the Singapore Hop on Hop off bus . I paid S$6 for a day pass as compared to the next cheapest similar service that would have costed me S$13.

E Sukhanova 24 September 2004
Stayed at  Plaza Parkroyal Hotel - Singapore, Singapore.
Try the St. Gregory Javana Spa at Plaza ParkRoyal Hotel (Beach Road). The prices are not rock bottom, but a very good value for the care you get, and quite reasonable by US/West European standards. Hotel guests receive a discount of 30% off on services before 4 PM, 10% off at other times.

H Miyazaki 20 September 2004
Stayed at  Swissotel Merchant Court - Singapore, Singapore.
Long Beach Seafood Restaurant at East Coast Parkway was OK. We took dinner there on Saturday evening, so the restaurant was quite crowded and noisy, however, we enjoyed the food as well as the atmosphere.
