Stayed at Beach - Durban, South Africa.

Was on a conference visit. Durban has a wonderful climate, and the winter days were very comfortable (moderate). The sea is a joy to walk by. Ushaka Marine World is impressive (large sharks and other species in a large aquarium).

Visit the Longhorn and Piatto restorants. Ballito, Umghlanga and Uvongo are amazing places.

We did a clock-wise tour from Durban of KwaZulu-Natal. Highly recommended were the Drackensberg mountains, the midlands battlefields and the game reserves at Ithala and Umfolozi.
We hired a car. We changed our first car which was a Toyota Tazz with no AirCon or Power Steering. This was poorly explained by the on-line car hire company and I would recommend people to book an up-graded car.

Places visited proir to booking in Balmoral included St. Georges Hotel in Capetown(6 days) then on to Mossel Bay for a short stop before continuing to Oudstshroon for 2 days in Caves Lodge Hotel. Left for George for quick stop and then to Knysna for a night stay. Following day to Port Elizabeth for 3 days (stayed Caboose Hotel which burned down) and further 3 days in East London. Next stop Margate and finally Durban (Balmoral Hotel).

This hotel only a short ride from the sports stadiums. Very good restaurants within seconds of the hotel. Excellent location - only a stone's throw from the beach.
