Was on a conference visit. Durban has a wonderful climate, and the winter days were very comfortable (moderate). The sea is a joy to walk by. Ushaka Marine World is impressive (large sharks and other species in a large aquarium).

Loved Capetown as a city. Recommend touring around Capetown on the 'topless bus', also take advantage of organized trips to places of interest, i.e. Townships, Robben Island etc.

We stayed in Santon and travelled by taxi and foot (although not by foot late at night on the advice of the hotel staff). Would recommend the Bull Run in Santon and the Butcher's shop in Nelson Square to eat. We used a local taxi for tours and were given a personal guide to Soweta which was moving and informative from a local's point of view. We found the local people in Santon extremely helpful and friendly.

Just a short break for a few days. Sandtown Square was a great place to chill out.
Excellent food and service at the Bull Run restaurant, close by, with a Blues bar adjacent.

From there you can easily visit the Water Front, where everybody seems to be at night, table mountain, shuttle leaving from the Tourist Information Center, just two minutes walking distance from the hotel. For the Wine Route, we rented a car, ask the hotel concierge, they worked an ok deal for us. The car is also useful to visit all the bays surrounding the city, Cape Point, and you can get to Hermanus too, just to try your luck on see whales, we didn't see any, and apparently September is the best month, we saw whale thought just driving down on the coast to Cape Point. On Long Street, try Mama Africa, for good ambience and African Food. And for the most adventurers, try Bob's Place, a dodgy looking but very friendly pub.

Weather was great (even though it was Autumn). Visited Table Mountain which was spectacular because of the clear skies and lack of wind. Also drove to Cape Point which again was stunning. Our first trip to SA, but not our last!

Not much to do in Joburg. Went to watch cricket at Centurion Park on a warm sunny day. Awesome. A meal at the Butcher Shop and Grill and Vilamoura (sea food) in Sandton City is a must.
