The Guggenheim is a must-see for the building alone. Old town of Bilbao and shopping district will keep you occupied for a day or two.

Bilbao is worth a visit! We took the metro from Santutxu to the end station on line C, "Plentzia", which turned out to be a beautiful village on the sea. The metro line goes only partly underground, so it was great to see the beautiful houses and gardens under the journey. Coming back we went out at "Casco Viejo" and came to the beautiful Plaza de Unamuno in the very center of the old city. Of course, the most important thing to visit in Bilbao is Guggenheim, but don't forget the small villages outside the city center!

Bilbao is a very interesting and beautiful city. It blends the old with the contemporary. I was very surprised with my experiences. I only wish I had arranged for a longer stay. The riverfront development, the Guggenheim and their concert hall are great designs. Also, the bridges over the river along the waterfront were exceptional.

I visited particularly to see the airport, designed by Calatrava, and was disappointed that photography is not allowed. Why not? Showing my photos to others can only act as an inducement for them to visit, how does it hurt the city, or anyone else?

Tapas are the thing, not so much the fancy restaurants. Walking is the perfect way to get around although the underground is efficient too. It´s worthwhile to visit the outskirts of Bilbao by the coast.

Bilbao was a positive surpise with the absolute top being the Guggenheim museum. Exploring Bilbao by foot can be recommended.

The extremely cheap airport bus goes to Plaza Muyoa (?spelling)not the Arenal bus station as my guidebook says - but taxis are very reasonable. Good trips to San Sebastian (buses on the hour from Termibus, near San Mames station take just over an our) and Burgos - a long trip but worth it. There's quite a good restaurant just down the road from the Hotel - turn right as you go out - there are 2 next to each other but I only tried the nearer one

not great weather so probably a little biased but found some sweet bars to eat in and there is quite a bit to do outside of seeing the guggenheim ... although a little industrial in parts

The guggenheim is not open on mondays; perhaps use this day to visit San Sebastian, buses go every hour and take 1hr 10mins. The underground in Bilbao is cheap and fast, and as built by Sir Norman Foster is a sight to behold too!
