Beruwela was great for relaxing. A beautiful beach area with plenty of opportunity for those who are into water sports. Some local handicrafts available around the area. We were fortunate to be there during a "perahara" (a parade with dancers and elephants). Supposedly the second largest to the famous Kandy perahara. This was spetacular.

We hired a car as my mother, who lives in Germany, travelled to Sri Lanka and Asia for the first time. When stopping at a government guesthouse for breakfast, my husband Paul, who looks Sri Lankan but is British, was thought to be our driver, thus his breakfast came for free. Paul then carried on the game, calling myself and my mom 'madam' on every occasion. When stopping at another hotel in Kandy, he drove off to park the car and was handed a voucher by the security guard for free food and accommodation!!! I joked and said I did not realise that marrying an asian bloke could save me so much money on my holidays to Sri Lanka, as in future I would book a single room!!!
