Visit the Temple of the Tooth in the AM, before the crowds. As you enter, a booth on your right stores your shoes, do not follow "guide" into temple on your right. There is a pat down search as you enter. Take a tuk tuk to Helgas Folly for afternoon tea and cookies, or dinner in the PM, lovely views.

There are a lot of choices when it comes to things to do. The botanical gardens, the elephant orphanage, Matele (herb and spice gardens) or just walking around the lake. Just don't get there on a public holiday. There is a dearth of good restaurants, in fact I didn't find any. "The PuB" is the best bet for a feed, a drink and to meet fellow travellers.

The Temple of the Tooth is Kandy's main attraction. Escape the traffic for a while by strolling along the lakeside path near the city centre. Plenty of inexpensive restaurants along the main strip as well as a supermarket stocking European products.

The botanical gardens were interesting and very peaceful. Kandy itself is a nice town - you can walk around the lake and then go for a lion beer in the Queens Hotel!

Excellent all the way. Sigriya was definately the high point. People are very friendly. Tea plantations and the beaches are definitely worth visiting. Scuba and snorkelling is great as well. Go crazy shopping in Colombo!!

Kandy is quite beautiful and there are several things to see & do around the area. We had a hired car & driver from Colombo for a reasonable rate.

Sri Lankan offers incredible diversity - something for every traveller.
We witnessed breathtaking beauty and abject poverty. Two weeks of touring the southern half of the island has left me wanting more.
