Bern is a small city, even if it the capital of Switzerland. You can easily get around with the tram and bus system and see all major attractions in half a day. Most trams and buses go to the train station, near where all the action is, so it's very easy to get around. The tourist office is also very helpful.
Don't miss a walk around the city center, the cathedral, the parliament and the views from several of its bridges. At night the city is not very well-illuminated, except for the parliament and the cathedral. You can get excellent views of them from the bridge south of the city walking off the casino.
A beautiful charming town with plenty of attractions near by such as the Jungfrau region, Fribourg and Gruyeres, etc.
