Lucerne is a small quaint town, a total must see if you are in Switzerland. The town is so small that you can walk it down. Highlights are the city wall, lion monument and the kapelbrucke. The downtown is beautiful with its 15th century buildings with painted facades. From Lucerne, you can also do Mount Titlis for which you take a train to Engelberg and take a tram up. The Italian places by the lake are superb though exorbitant.

I highly recommend checking out the tobogganning at Pilatus. You can catch the number one bus which is virtually opposite the hotel. This takes you up to Pilatis, well is a 5 minute walk from the bus stop.
There you can go up on the gondala and tobogan all the way back down, takes approximately 2 - 3 hours. Excellent fun, highly recommended, certainly blows the cobwebs away after a night out!!

Lucerne is a beautiful city with its lake and the Alps. I recommend taking a boat excursion. It's very quaint and clean. However, it is quite expensive and I didn't find the people very friendly, except at the hotel.

Pretty little city on the river. Good destination for a short day to day and a half visit, or as a launching point for day trips.

Travellers must be prepared that Switzerland is the most expensive country in Europe. Getting around is easy, and the ice-cream is good.

The hotel was central for the station, lake and town centre. Very convienient to return to use the loo!
We thought we would use a taxi when we arrived the cases were duly put in the cab The taxi driver then asked where to. He immediately took the cases out of the cab and said you do not need me the hotel is over the road.
The hotel was about 1 minute away from lake, across the bridge were restaurants and town centre. How easy was that.
We had a 4 hour lake trip, also visited Mount Pilates and walked to Richard Wagners' property.
We also visited Picasso museum and the Cathedral. All worth a visit.
