Tours are bit expensive. We went visit several temples, the Queens garden and several natural parks. These places are far from the resort and you need to have a local guide to take you there. We hired a taxi guide from the airport but you need to negotiate the price a little bit. Be flexible and you will have a good time. We found out that two nights were not enough to see everything in Chiang Mai.

Just loved Chiang Mai. Human scale, and just enough mix of expat and genuine ethnic to be utterly facinating. We will return!

Take the "tuk-tuk" on two hours in the center of Chiang Mai and ask the driver to go to the main shuttles. You will have full picture of main places of interests for 300-350 Bath!!! We'd like to recommend Thai restaurant "Gallery" (across the river on left side), not chip. The cheapest fresh seafood restaurants are placed behind the night bazaar.

Took a tour to visit tribal villages (booked throught the hotel travel agent). Was a bit put off as the visit was to a three tribe village build just for tourists, not a real setting. Think this should have been clearly mentioned while booking. But the scenery, anyhow, was breathtaking.

If time...drive around local countryside. Good time to go Nov - Jan when it is relatively cool.

If visiting Chiang Mai City is your major interest, Belle Villa is not your first choice as it's about 15km from Chiang Mai. If you plan doing trekking or other outdoor activities, as well relaxing (maybe a bit from your trip), then it's perfect. At the airport rent a car, you will need it later. Visit Mae Sae Elephant Camp!

Chiang Mai is a charming and interesting place to visit. The markets are fun to browse through, and the city is built on a manageable scale.

Location is good for the Night Market and the Warrowat Market. We used the bus system to explore the enchanting communites of Northern Thailand. The bus station is 20 minutes away by taxi and the average cost was 50 baht.
