Access from Bangkok was good. I used airplane from Bangkok this time. It took 30 minutes from/to Bangkok/Hua Hin. But it should be over this October. We need to use limousine from/to Bangkok/Chiva-som. It should be too tiring - 3 hours by one way.

Hua Hin is far from Bangkok, 3 hour-bus-driving distance from the southern bus terminal. The fare of limo service from BKK airport is very expensive, compared with the bus fare. As of the exotic experience in the overseas, taking the meter taxi and express bus is another good experience. I specially recommend travelers have dinners at the pier next to Hua Hin Hyatt Regency. The price is reasonable and the taste is very good, especially recommending steamed lobsters and pawns. The town is within the 30 minute walk distance in all direction, then people can enjoy the town life after 6 pm, avoiding the scorching sunlights.

It's very convenient from Bangkok to Huahin by taking exp bus for about 3 hours. The exp bus leaves every 30 minutes and price is 128 Bath. But please remember don't take the ordinary bus, it's very slow (about 4.5 hours) and would pick up the people at every bus-stop. You can take both buses at South bus terminal.

Hua Hin is a nice, quiet beach town. Easy to get to from Bangkok, with a variety of hotels to stay at. Stayed at the old Railway hotel, so we could walk to restaurants and shops. The Hua Hin Brewing Company by the Hilton is an American size and atmosphere brew pub/restaurant, and seems to be the hottest nightspot in town currently. Lots of Italian restaurants run by expats with decent food, and good seafood places by the fishing pier. The markets aren't as big, but some nice shops with souvenirs and nicer things within and easy exploratory walk around the central area.

Hua Hin's a nice, small resort town. Not much shopping, but a great place to just hang out and relax. We think it's nicer than Phuket and Koh Samui at any rate (Samui's beach is better though). Everything is within walking distance if you're staying at the Hilton resort. If you're tired, ask the concierge to arrange for a tuk-tuk (they'll tell you the average price so you don't get fleeced). Avoid the restaurant Itsara - it's grossly over-rated. It's popular with Thais and Thai VIPs (and recommended by our hotel) but we found the food rather bland. The Sinatra music and beachfront location is nice, but the mosquitoes and blah food is not worth the 10 minute drive out of town. Here's what we discovered in Hua Hin..Best Chinese restaurant: Hilton's White Lotus. Best Indian restaurant: Maharajarah's. Best cakes for tea/coffee: World News Cafe, part of the Hilton complex. Best foot massage: Royal Thai Massage opposite the hotel complex - foot, hand, back and head massage, all for 300baht! Best buy at the night market: brightly coloured rubber slippers (40 baht) and little cloth animals stuffed with sand (10 for 300 baht) for the kids. For those of you who love to bargain, you'll find that the vendors here don't like to bargain much, unless you're buying in bulk.

Only there for a short period of time to play golf so did not see much of it. What I did see I liked. They were offering golfing packages in Hua Hin for the month of August which sounded attractive however the catch was that many of the courses are undergoing maintenance so the quality of some of them were pretty poor.

Hua Hin was great. The weather wasn't the best while we were there, but the night market made up for it. A close bus ride from Bangkok. I recommend NOT taking the train (they leave at inconvenient times either really early in the morning or in the afternoon) and the buses are quite comfortable. I would definitey come back to Hua Hin.

Everything is at your doorstep (literally!) - shops, bars, numerous restaurants and there is no shortage of tuk tuks, taxis and a good range of tours can be booked via the hotel. It makes it all the nicer to return to the peacefulness & tranquility of the hotel!

C Connon 18 July 2003
Stayed at  Hua Hin Blue Wave Beach Resort - Hua Hin, Thailand.
For cheap lunch, walk 100m down beach and eat while relaxing in a deck chair facing out to sea. Great roadside restaurant in middle of Hua Hin night market (at cross roads). Delicious seafood. Determine price of beer before sitting otherwise they will overcharge.

Just for a hint...the ape mountain is just beside Blue Wave hotel, walking distance. You don't need to take travel agency trip going there.
