Ao Nang is a nice resort. I'd recommend it to a friend. Tantas Thai restaurant was good food and value for money. Sea Canoe offered a great kayaking excursion. The choice of kayak and tour companies can be daunting! Nosey parkers elephant trek was an afternoon, was a well-run excursion with friendly staff there.

Enjoyed the Krabi area, good range of places to eat both in Ao Nang and Krabi. Good transport links - taxis, buses and boats - use all of them! Good range of activities and places to visit. We were keen to use reputable eco-friendly companies for the nature tours and trips as we felt the beautiful countryside in this area needs as much protection from the tourist industry as possible...

Ao Nang has changed quite a bit and become much more crowded. There is even a McDonald's.

They did not offer us any information. It was easy and cheap to get into town by local taxi.
There are loads of good places to eat in Ao Nang Bay, the Italian restaurant Azzurro Nova was very good although a little more expensive than normal, but worth it.
The boat trip to Chicken Island is a must. Great scenery and the boat will wait for you for a couple of hours or more. Bargain over the price, the more of you the cheaper.

There are a few local restaurants on the beach next to the hotel which offer good food at very reasonable prices. The restaurants I tried on the main "strip" were not very good.
Everything is very well-organized: boats, tours etc.. there are fixed prices which eliminates the need to bargain. The boat to Railay beach from Ao Nang is Baht 50 per person. After 6:30 pm the fare is Baht 80.
Railay is a beautiful area. It has 3 beach areas and is very charming. However, the bungalows are very close together except for the Rayavadee which consumes the prime piece of land touching all 3 beach fronts. It is smaller more quaint than the main area of Ao Nang. There were more families in Railay. Krabi resort's guests were mainly older Europeans.
For airport transfers to the hotel, again the prices are fixed (at Baht 500) to Ao Nang. For the transfer back to the airport, the hotel wanted to charge Baht 600; instead I booked a car for Baht 400. The taxis are located on the far end (from Krabi resort) of the main street. The taxi arrived promptly.

Krabi is an outstanding place with such fantastic geography. Restaurants are good and not expensive. In fact nothing seems to be very expensive in Thailand except the airfare to get there.
We rented a car and found it was a great way to get around although you need to be an experienced driver what with the left hand drive and all the motorbikes which drive on all sides of the road. Also roads are not well marked with signs to hotels and attractions so sometimes it takes a while to get where you want to go.

Koh Lanta is still relatively undiscovered. While its great being one of the few tourists, the isle is relatively hard to get to... we were stuck in the line for the ferry for six hours...
