Krabi is a nice resort destination, mostly tourists from Europe, sand and water is okay, need to go to outlying islands for really nice beaches and water.

Ao Nang is a travellers town, but the surrounding area is beautiful. The Thai government needs to step in and look after the area though as all the tourism is wrecking the area - lots of pollution in the sea.

Krabi is wonderful. Beautiful karst mountains, emerald green sea and lovely welcoming people. Ao Nang seems to have been heavily developed for package tourists and I would not recommend it to anyone who wants peace and quiet and to enjoy the scenery. Railay Beach appeared nicer although that too was heavily touristed. It would be a shame if the local authorities allow development on the scale of Phuket but this is unfortunately inevitable.

Ao Nang Cuisine on the main road has excellent food. Motor bike rental is cheap and fun to get out and see the sights.

It would have been nice to know in advance that the beach front was under major construction to the sidewalks.

Dont take the slow boat to Phi Phi island otherwise you may find yourself on a backpackers ferry there which stops to pick up large numbers of people and their backpacks, eating into the time you have on your day out. Suggest that Krabi is no more than a 1 night destination - get onto an island as soon as you can!

Pretty empty during low season. LOTS of construction, and the ocean gets quite murky from the runoff after rain. That's not to say the water isn't clean, it just isn't clear due to the dirt and sand getting kicked up.
