Phitsanulok is ok as a hub to visit Sukhothai, Si Satchanalei, Kampaeng Phet etc. The town itself is a rather dreadful place, cut up by highway 12, a river, and a train line, which makes navigation rather tedious. Both the guide book favourites Wat Mahathat and the Buddha casting factory-cum-museum are defintely not worth a detour of any kind.

Hotel provids a taxi service almost round the clock. Excellent restaurant named Nan Nam by the river. Must visit the waterfall.

Local facts of foreign visitors' interest, like the disappearance of the local night market with its famous and appreciated street food stalls, should be noted by the staff. We asked were the new night market might be, and nobody at the hotel knew. We discovered it by chance.
