Small bars and restaurants on the beach in front of the hotel are friendly and inexpensive.

We used the restaurants on the beach at Bang Tao, as they were very good, very friendly and reasonably priced...

As part of our package we visited the Phantasea show, which was very well done - an impressive performance.
A negative however is that our driver on the return journey did not appear to know where the hotel was and consequently he drove right pass the hotel, despite us telling him to stop. He then proceeded to drop all the remaining passengers off before leaving us to last, meaning that our journey was 20 minutes longer than it should have been.
You should communicate with the Phantasea management team to ensure their driving team are fully aware of the location of the hotel.

Transportation to the beach at Patong takes about 15 mins and the ride was pleasant. Cosy you about 350 baht using hotel car or 200 baht using regular local taxis. This can be found at the road side stand fronting the sea.

We highly recommend visiting the other 3 resorts, all 4 hotels cross charge expenses, no need to carry cash. On the sea front, everything you need can be found by the local salers which will bend backwards to satisfy your request. Just outside the hotel you can rent Jeeps (opened or closed), motorbikes,... go shopping at "canal village" - the sales person are a bit "pushy" but all is negotiatable (?!).
On the sea front of the hotel you will find small "shops" which offer exactly the same goods at a more attractive price (clothes, cruises,...). Don't miss on the fruit platter that the little shops offer (EXCELLENT, refreshing, very cheap 100 Baht).
The hotel is 30 mns drive from Pathong - loads of shops - "gogo bars" - wonderful sea front. You must go on a "Tuk Tuk" (local cabs) - very cost effective, original, refreshing, quick. Within one hour (maximum) you have access to all the beautiful spots that Phuket has to offer, water falls, forests, sea fronts, temples, elephant trekking, orchids farms ....
A trip to Kho Pipi is a must, go on a speed boat (400 bhp) - no more than 20 guests at a very low cost (4000 Bahts) - includes everything (drinks, lunch, fruits, ...) - swim in the blue sea, feed fish, see "monkey beach". By now you gathered we can only praise the resort and the location. At no time did we feel insecure or anything.

We enjoyed Patong. We would recommend the 6 in 1 Safari and sea canoe trip to Phang Nga Bay. The Fantasea show is very cheesy, but worth seeing the Thai version of Disney (without the rides).

Patong is not really for the faint hearted but get away from the resort and there are still some lovely corners of Phuket and particuarly good diving (recommend four or five day live aboards to the Similian Islands which leave several times a week from Patong beach for a little piece of relaxation away from the throng - high season only).

What friendly people, everyone makes the effort to make you feel at home. Actually try to lean a few words and watch their faces light up with delight. Truly nice people.
Phuket is a great town, plenty to do from shopping, eating – even off the street stalls, which are very clean. There is every sort of nightlife from quite bars in luxurious hotels to dance and music bars in the centre of town. You should try the Gay district for a really fun and friendly night. There is loads to do if you can drag yourself out of the Amari Coral Beach.
We tried a trip to Pi Pi island, quite a rough boat trip on the way out but what a fabulous place no wonder they filmed the Beach there.

Speed boat trips around the islands are a delight - but fairly expensive - well so are the taxis!

You are over 1 hour from Patong and more to Karen Beach I felt that Phuket has gone very expensive 40 to 50% more than Hua Hin and at least 30% more than Bangkok on eating and drinking and the cost of hotel rooms. I will never go back to Phuket in season.
