They are located up hill with a view over Patong Bay. The most beautiful there is I guess. They bring you to Patong for free in a black limousine with leather... I felt like a king.

Stayed at Siam Phuket Resort - Phuket, Thailand.

It's very calm and peaceful, though a bit far away from the beaches. The closest, Nai Harn is about 1 hour walking, but it's beatiful and calm. To get to other places you will have to take a taxi or tuk-tuk (or rent a motorbike or a car).

THE BEACH
Phuket was cool but I wouldn't say amazing. I wished we had tried Krabi instead. As a married man Patong beach was interesting due to the large contingent of Europeans at the beach; most of which went topless. If you like to drink and dance and don't have a couple of kids with you then I'd say that Phuket and Patong are probably for you.
SCUBA DIVING
We went mainly for the beach and the scuba diving. My wife and I are avid scuba divers and were excited about getting in the water in Thailand. We used Santana Diving which is just around the corner from the hotel. We made a 3 tank trip to the EAST of Phuket; visiting anemone reef, the king cruiser, and shark point. Anemone reef was nice and colorful, the king cruiser was also a nice wreck penetration dive, but shark point was very disapointing. The current at shark point was exhausting and there were no leopard sharks which is what it is famous for. Further, we found all of the dives to have low visibility and very crowded.
Santana's boat was comfortable but crowded and they concerned me about safety. They are a PADI 5 star holder yet no one ever asked to see our C-cards. The dives were all pretty deep and I'm sure we were close on the tables. During the King Cruiser wreck I gave the divemaster the low air sign several times which he acknowledged and seemed to ignore. I made it to the surface with an empty tank after cutting my safety stop short due to no air. I am a very cautious diver and didn't care to feel that I was on the edge.
GETTING AROUND
Use the red pickup trucks as your taxi or tuk-tuk. Ask for one to take you to the little viewpoint and the big viewpoint at sunset. It is well worth the 700 Baht price. The driver will take you to both and wait for you to take photos, have dinner, and watch the sunset.

Stayed at Holiday Inn Resort Phuket - Phuket, Thailand.
|
The area list hotel is located in is rather cheap and junky. I supposed it's fine if you're a 20 something with no money. Lots of cheap stores and restaurants. The Holiday Inn was the nicest hotel in the general vicinity.
