Stayed at  Jiva Resort and Spa - Phuket, Thailand.
Elephant trekking was a memorable experience to me, I would recommend every tourist to at least try once in your lifetime.

Stayed at  Impiana Phuket Cabana Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
Phuket itself, especially Patong Beach is touristy - there is no getting away from it. However, we still had a great time - a trip to Phi Phi islands is worth it, although be prepared for a choppy ride there in monsoon season (we went in Sept). Fantasea is good if you like disney & have kids (unfortunately not a good experience for us - too many crowds).

Stayed at  Sheraton Grande Laguna Beach - Phuket, Thailand.
Lovely destination. Recommend a good look through the tours on offer - especially if staying for a long vacation. Food-wise - we had a lovely lobster in the Thai restaurant and a very nice meal at Puccini - the Italian restaurant (the bread basket and dips are delicious - and that's before the lovely food you have ordered, arrives), and thoroughly recommend the Caesar's salad (with prawns) in the pool bar - yummy! With more time we would have checked out other restaurants.

Stayed at  Karon Beach Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
Try the Safari trek with elephants ... great!

G Dykes 09 August 2003
Stayed at  Thara Patong Beach Resort, Phuket - Phuket, Thailand.
Spent $300 Baht for a car to take us into Phuket city and take us from place to place from about 10am - 3.30pm. They do take you to various tourist shops but there is no pressure to buy anything and tour is interesting enough. Get an idea of market prices before going to compare - helps later with the bargaining in the market.

L Williams 29 July 2003
Stayed at  Thara Patong Beach Resort, Phuket - Phuket, Thailand.
Phuket is a regular destination - usually for golf. Thara Patong provides great base. Phuket is a nice place though expensive for Thailand - even the Thais consider it expensive. But good infrastructure (roads, ATMS, Phones, hospitals, airport) make it a welcome destination.

M Kam fung 13 July 2003
Stayed at  Royal Paradise Hotel - Phuket, Thailand.
You can rent a motor bike by the Patong Beach, take a map from the hotel and travel by bike, you will found out that Phuket has so many beaches and is much better than Patong. The one day tour to Phi Phi Island was lovely, not too expensive, just costs 750bht which is including pick up service (return), boat to the Island, lunch etc.

N Dover 30 June 2003
Stayed at  Chedi, The - Phuket, Thailand.
"Bann Rim Pa" is an upmarket restaurant located on the edge of a cliff at Patong's northern end. While being host to many celebrities its not that much better, taste wise, than some of the restaurants within Patong. Near Casuarina Bungalow, there is a fresh seafood restaurant where you can choose your own lobsters, king prawns, mussles and fresh greens. The Thai food here is amazing, even though there are some Chinese culinary fares. Much better than Ban Rim Pa. Wine is quite expensive wherever you go. Buy some duty free at the airport arrivals (just behind immigration desks) and take it long with you for dinner - money well saved.

S Chow 19 June 2003
Stayed at  Jiva Resort and Spa - Phuket, Thailand.
About 8 mins tuk tuk ride or 25 mins walking distance to Kata beach, an excellent beach which should not be missed, quiet and clean and not as commercial and busy as Patong. There are shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel is 45 mins from the airport and 30 mins to the Phuket town. But goods and transport in Phuket are expensive and everything seems designed for tourist purposes. You have to take the so-called taxi to everywhere. The tuk tuk is even more expensive than those taxis. Remember to bargain with the 'taxi' driver. Overall, Phuket is good for water sports/sun and beaches but not shopping/culture.

W Ho 16 June 2003
Stayed at  Bangtao Beach Chalet - Phuket, Thailand.
Phuket is fantastic. Beautiful beaches and plentiful places to shop and dine. A snorkelling trip to Kho Phi Phi is also a must try!
