Went to a Japanese Restaurant - Sakura which was good (authentic) value for money; getting around was not a good experience owing to the fact that the local transport (tuk-tuk) charged exhorbitantly and passed rude remarks when we declined. We realize the sad economic situation, but the retail market was still indifferent towards browsers and buyers. The coffee-house at the Patong Merlin Hotel offered us their usual excellent personal service even though we were not hotel guests. Dino Park Mini Golf - service was excellent here.

One of the top beaches in the world. I have travelled all over the world to find this type of beach. The only thing I did not like was the shop owners who bothered you so much for your business.

We picked up a booklet entitled ART AND CULTURE PHUKET AND BEYOND. We used this as a guide for shopping. If you only have time for one place, I would recommend Cherng Talay as a nice place to shop. I dislike the strip along Patong Beach. For food, we started with drinks at LA SALSA followed by dinner at the SALA BUA. Quite good. Another evening we ate at DA MAURIZIO, which was nicely located by the seaside. I like to hear the pounding surf. The spa facilities as the LAYAN SPA VILLAGE were very nice.

Phuket is a superb place for a holiday. Great value for money and so much nicer than the likes of Bali.

Patong is very commercialized but there is a long stretch of beach and the kids loved playing in the sea. However you do get bothered by the locals trying to sell you a massage of some sorts. The tuk tuk drivers are a pest too, always asking if you want a taxi - be wary of the prices and try and get a bit of local knowledge on how much you should pay, we got ripped off, no wonder he was so friendly and accommodating, he probably made his daily quota out of us alone!

Karon beach was too heavy to swim in during low season. Taxi and Tuk Tuk to Patong Beach was very expensive 200-300 Baht.

We were in Karon for only 2 days. Hence, we did not get to see the town a whole lot, since we went scuba diving. Our diving experience was wonderful.
