Samui was sensational. Not as touristy as other Thai beach destinations.

Rent a car and get around, the island has many things to see and to check out. People staying the whole time at the beach miss a lot. Recommended is the Hin Lat Waterfall (go there in the moring, take a bath in the pool), and the secret garden with the statues.

Koh Samui was great--a nice combination of opportunities for relaxation coupled with shopping and great food. We have a two-year-old and we were able to relax at the kiddie pool and beach. I took him on a half-hour elephant trek which he loved. I'm sure he'll treasure those photos as he grows up.

I also took a cooking class at the SITCA cooking institute. It was a lot of fun and the food we cooked was great--it's a nice option for a meal one evening since they encourage you to invite a friend after the meal is cooked.

Stayed at  Coral Cove Chalet - Samui, Thailand.
Koh Samui is beautiful! I would recommend going there! We took a day trip to the marine sanctuary to sea kayak and snorkel! It was a long day, but very fun! Many people rent motorbikes and cars, but if you aren't careful riding a bike on the 2 land curvy roads and if you don't know how to drive a manual car, then you have 2 other options: 1. rent a driver and car from your hotel for the day or 2. jump on the back of a taxi. We rented a driver for about 20 dollars the whole day and it worked out quite nicely because he knew how to get around the island and where to take us.

The taxis are fine for short distances. Be advised that you have to bargain for your fare and it gets more expensive in the evening. Depending on how far you are going, the fare can be anywhere from 20-100+ Baht per person.

Stayed at  Impiana Resort Samui - Samui, Thailand.
Having walked along the beach towards town and seen the other hotels along the beach the Impiana Resort is in my mind the best because of its location at the end of the beach right next to beach resturants and bars. The beach is also cleaner and nicer than closer to town. In general, the hotel itself looks nicer than any other hotel along the way.

Stayed at  Best Western Samui Bayview Resort - Samui, Thailand.
Samui is a wonderful island I can travel to other island near by easily (Nanag Yaun island Pha Ngan island and Tao island). There are many restaurant in Samui island with variety of food to choose.

Jimmi at Roma Tailors in Chewang is delightful (and makes a good suit too!).

D Wong 03 December 2002
Stayed at  Chaweng Buri Resort - Samui, Thailand.
We saw the Sunset Nathon. Tried a good seafood resturant there, Starry Sea Food, it has live fishes, prawns, crabs...very fresh. Spent around 2,000 Baht for two persons. However, we had an very exciting experience. We finished dinner around 8:30pm. We hardly found any vehicles go back to Chaweng and it was really dark and less people. After walking along the road for more than 15 mins and getting worry. We asked a guy on the street, he quickly pointed us to a moving and crowd van said that was a car. He stopped that and we quickly got in. I then realized that one was the last car.

C Amann 17 November 2002
Stayed at  Chaweng Regent Beach Resort, The - Samui, Thailand.
Koh Samui was nice, but it was somewhat difficult to get around the island. We ended up staying at the hotel beach most of the time.
