Stayed at First Bungalow Beach Resort - Samui, Thailand.
|
Chaweng Noi is a nice alternative to staying in Chaweng central. We took taxis or a motorbike to the central strip whenever we wanted food or drink. But First Bungalow was isolated enough to remain quiet and peaceful (except for the occasional jet surfer).

Stayed at Coral Bay Resort - Samui, Thailand.

Lovely. Very relaxing island with just enough to do to keep busy for a few days and then relax by the pool/beach. Very easy to get around.

We were literally on the beach! For shopping, we walked up and down the high street, or used the cheap jeeps for 20 Baht each way so save the walk back.
Thai massages are so cheap and soooo relaxing!

Stayed at Coral Bay Resort - Samui, Thailand.
|
This resort is located only 10 mins from Samui airport. If you bargain with a taxi driver you can usually get transportation there for about 80 Baht per person.
The grounds of the Coral Bay are beautifully kept gardens. The beach is clean but beware there is a coral reef so swimming is not recommended without plastic shoes. The water is quite shallow. For better swimming, Chaweng beach is about a 10 min hike from the Coral Bay. It is quite secluded and quiet but the nightlife is only a hop away. The restaurant located on the beach is excellent. This place could outdo many a 5 star hotel kitchens.

Stayed at Central Samui Village - Samui, Thailand.

We visited Samui at the beginning of Oct. which we found was a great time to go. The hotel rates were low but the weather was still great. Water was calm and the days were very hot. (Much nicer than Phuket during this time where most of the beaches were not "swimmable.")

Stayed at Papillon Resort - Samui, Thailand.
|
Samui, at least at the Papillion end, was better than I'd been led to believe. It's definitely not Thailand, more like Europe with Thai workers, but still very fun.

Great shopping and relaxing. The waterfalls were almost totally dried (big disappointment) this time of the year.

Stayed at Baan Samui Resort - Samui, Thailand.
|
If you take a boat to Koh Toy please keep this experience in mind - our travel guide (whom we met through the book at the hotel) told us that we would have no problem getting back in time to catch the last flight back to Bangkok as the boat will return from four to six p.m. However, the seas were rough and the boat was late arriving and hence late leaving. The tour was good in bringing our bags from the hotel to the pier, but also informed us that it is common for the boats to be late.
