When travelling from Surathani to Koh Samui, take the Seatram ferry rather than the Raja ferry. The prices are the same but the Seatram buses and ferries are much newer.

Maenam beach is quite quiet but beautiful. We decided to go to Chaweng the main beach resort which we enjoyed much more - great restaurants and bars on the beach and lively on the strip parallel to the beach if you want it.
