Bangkok, what can one say. You either love it or hate it. It's a very hot, dusty, sticky city. Lots of stray dogs and beggars. Despite all this, it has its own sort of charm. There are lots of markets offering everything. Great handbags, belts, ties, household textiles, clothes. Just be sure to bargain, do not accept the first offer.
If you're looking for gems, can definitely recommend the Gems Gallery out on Rama 6 Rd. Most hotels know of this place and the gallery will send a driver to pick you up. They have a huge selection of jewels, gold and silver and the prices are not over the top.

Breakfast at the restaurant was always very busy and noisy.
Do not take the limousine to the airport - much cheaper to go by normal taxi.

Located near the shopping district, good location to start your shopping or your sightseeing tours: skytrain is a few minutes away.

Located within walking distance (10 minutes) to the Skytrain, and smack in the middle of some street markets (for shopping).

As it's a nightmare taking a taxi in Bangkok, it is strongly recommended to stay in a hotel near a BTS station despite of higher price or away from the major shopping centres. Taxi drivers there always:
1.Charge you higher fare without turning on the fare metre.
2. Taking you to somewhere for shopping where you dont't want to go but they can get a commission or fuel coupons.
Air pollution in Bangkok is terrible, yet Thai food there is fantastic, eg. crab curry served in the restaurant inside Le Meridien Hotel next to the Chit Lom BTS Station.
For ladies, Wacoal underwear (available in World Trade Centre & Central Shopping Centre near the Chit Lom BTS Station) is more than 70% cheaper than in Hong Kong.

Lemongrass and Mango Tree are wonderful restaurants. Be sure to buy some mangosteens and rambutan from street hawkers--excellent fruit, both!

I was surprised at how easy it was to get around Bangkok. Taxis are plentiful and comfortable.

The weekend markets are a real highlight - massive, lots of bargains and absolutely putrid.
