Stayed at Amari Palm Reef Resort - Samui, Thailand.

We were tired after a hectic period at work, and so ended up spending most of the time strolling around Chaweng beach, the shops and restaurants & bars, and lying by the pool to recharge our batteries. The pace was leisurely and the people very friendly and helpful. We went on one outing; to Namuruang falls 2, combined with elephant trekking (surprisingly expensive at 600 bath/head for 30 minutes) and animal shows. We spent a couple of hours there and for us that was a nice package all in one.

Bangkok gets into your system very quickly. Day 1, we took a taxi to the river and chartered a boat (very cheaply) which took us everywhere and anywhere, and waited while we took in the sights. Visiting Thonburi snake farm, which was hysterical. We then visited the Palace, where we were ushered to buy clothes to cover up before entry, however, do NOT do this as if you walk into the palace there is a place to hire some very funky attire from, for which costs are refundable!! We then walked to the Lying down buddah, which is only two blocks away, so no need for taxi's etc, and as if that was'nr enough we hired three tuk-tuks to race us all back to the hotel (this became our preferred travel method, as 100 bhat would get us nearly anywhere, and the drivers knew we were up for a race, so it was no holds barred and screams of delight from us all as we did wheelies). The sky train was a second best travel method along with the riverboat taxi's, and we went to the night markets and weekend market (I bought no less than 22 t-shirts, and spent less than $50.) The food is awesome, and the hotel's cocktails and mini-spring rolls are just wonderful. I leave the best until last, and that is the Thai people. They are the most friendly and accomodating people I have ever met, they join in with your fun, they spend lots of time talking to you if you display interest in their culture and they have sold Thailand to me in the best way ever, as I am already planning my return to a place that I feel I never want to leave.

Stayed at Buddy Lodge - Bangkok, Thailand.

Would definitely recommend 'Eat Me', a fusion restaurant in an art gallery. Amazing food although on the pricey side for Thailand. Well worth it however.

Stayed at Dusit Laguna Resort Hotel - Phuket, Thailand.

For food I recommend to go outside the hotel, better food and much lower priced. The beach restaurant LOTUS about 5 minutes walk on the beach, is highly recomendable. Also just outside the Laguna are good restaurants. Forget the restaurant in the Canal village, no good!

Stayed at Ambassador Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.

To get to the Ambassador Hotel or other hotel in the city, while in Bangkok's international airport and after entering the arrival hall, you can buy a one-way fare for about 700 Baht (about $18.00)in a Mercedes or Volvo Taxi. This is more expensive than the regular taxis outside the airport on the street. A regular Taxi runs about 300 Baht; however, you will have to pay an additional 60 Baht, to use the tollway to get to your hotel, which makes the trip much faster. From the Ambassador Hotel, located in Sukhumvit, the BTS Skytrain is approximately a 3 minute walk, where a one day pass is only 95 Baht, and you within minutes you can reach major business and shopping districts in Bangkok.

Stayed at Ao Nang Villa Resort - Krabi, Thailand.
|
Ao Nang is a great base for island-hopping around Krabi: beach in Ao Nang itself is okay but not wonderful and can't swim at low tide. It's a busy little spot (even a McDonald's there), with some okay restaurants, although must ask for food to be cooked "Thai style" if you want the proper levels of spiciness in your tom yum gung. Ao Nang Cuisine seemed more authentic than most. Raileh and Tong Sai beaches very easy to reach, as well as those further afield. Took a speed boat to Maya Bay, where "The Beach" was filmed, which was stunning and very lucky to find it so quiet, post-tsunami: just a couple of boats on the beach. Also worth spending a day sea-canoeing. We went to the Ao Thalane mangrove swamps (nursing sunburn) rather than the beaches, and had a ball. Had monkeys jumping on the canoe, saw huge monitor lizards and even a cobra, and paddled up "Thailand's Grand Canyon". Would highly recommend it: not too exhausting and most people go for only a half-day so had the swamp to ourselves in the afternoon, visited secret lagoons and a tiny swimming beach. Fantastic!

Stayed at Royal Cliff Beach Resort - Pattaya, Thailand.
|
We have two children ages 6 and 9 and were looking for things to do with them that would keep us away from the "lively nightlife" Pattaya is known for. We found enough to keep us busy after a lazy day at the hotel pool or beach. Things to do are go-kart driving on Thep Prasit Road, Mini golf on Tappraya Road, visit the Ripley's Museum at the Royal Garden Plaza (next to the Marriott Hotel). Lots of places to eat at the Royal Garden Plaza. There are plenty of water activities to choose from and our children loved the jet skis. There is shopping at the Outlet Mall on Sukhumvit Road next to the Tesco/Lotus store. On our way back to Bangkok we stopped at the Tiger Zoo in Sriracha. It is a big place and we rushed through it in an hour but really needed more time if we wanted to see all the shows. It was a nice way to break up the 2 1/2 hour drive back to Bangkok.

Stayed at Ambassador Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.

This was our first visit to Bangkok. We enjoyed all the site seeing aroung the city. Joined tour groups mostly. We ate in an Indian restaurant named Bukhara. The food was very good and the price was moderate. The food court in the basement of Robinson Supermarket (Sukhumvit area) provides a variety of inexpensiive food.

Stayed at Rydges Amora Tapae Chiangmai Hotel - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
|
Elephant farm very good. Elephant dung paper a very interesting concept which appealed to me.
Temples great.
Night bazaars and artifact shops a homemaker's paradise.
Forget the dinner cruise. Did not eat much as when boat put on lights hoards of moths descended on dinner.
