P Johnstone 03 January 2005
Stayed at  Ambassador Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
Go to Pantip Plaza, great for electronics---Raatchathewi station for this.

M Sedam 01 January 2005
Stayed at  Grand President - Bangkok, Thailand.
Two good places to eat our Thai House 2 on Soi 5 above foodland and Cabbages & Condoms on Soi 12 are nice and within walking distance to GP.

W Poerner 01 January 2005
Stayed at  Royal Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Turn right when you leave the hotel and after 200 meters you will find the Ratchadamnoen Cuisine: a small restaurant with friendly service and great food for little money. Try the prawns with garlic or tamarind and 'Morning Glory'.

S Natte (2nd call) 01 January 2005
Stayed at  Baiyoke Suite Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
I would recommend early beginnings to your day, by leaving by 9:00am. Sightsee in the morning until about 1:00pm. Spend the afternoon shopping inside. You will find good bargains at indoor shopping areas. Or you can spend a couple of hours at least with a foot and body massage, or facial. Then, have a dinner and a nice drink, after such, go to the outdoor night markets or to a local club until late. I stayed out until about 1:00am every night. If you are out and about in the sun, take some sun block! And, make sure the taxi use their meters, and don't take a tuk-tuk for a long distance (but take one or two rides for the fun of it!) taxis are comfortable and worth it beginning at 35 baht, but traffic is heavy starting as early 3:00pm.

M Wong 31 December 2004
Stayed at  Ambassador Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
For an authentic taste of Thailand, visit the food centre on the 6th floor of the Mahboonkrong centre - take BTS to Siam station, change to western line and get off at National Stadium. My favourite was the fried oysters, Hoy Tod. MBK is a fantastic place to shop - clothing, crafts, electronics etc. And you dont have to bargain as hard as at the night markets to get the same price.

E Young 29 December 2004
Stayed at  Pearl Village, Phuket - Phuket, Thailand.
Trip Trek Tours took us on the Phi-Phi Islands trip the day the earthquake struck and if it hadn't been for the boat guides, I wouldn't be here to type this account. They saved our lives with their quick thinking and knowledge of the seas around them. A few days before we did the John Gray's Sea Canoe trip round the caves. Again, the crew were funny, knowledgeable and make the day a memorable one.

G Friedman 29 December 2004
Stayed at  Chiang Mai Plaza Hotel - Chiang Mai, Thailand.
The Elephant Conservation Center is a must. Even though it is a bit farther away than some of the other elephant camps it is by far the best and you can be assured that the elephants are well cared for. I had a very negative experience at the Gallery Restaurant which gets raves. Found the food very mediocre, service awful and while the ambiance was lovely the seats were unbelievably uncomfortable. I would not return.

J Ong 29 December 2004
Stayed at  Asia Bangkok Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
JJ weekend market is a must see, Suan Lum night market is very nice to shop at without too much crowds and it has good food to boot!

J Evans 28 December 2004
Stayed at  Miracle Grand Convention - Bangkok, Thailand.
The Bangkok police can supply useful information about the various hotels in their precincts. A thief may hit any hotel, but how the hotel staff respond, and the hotel's security and compensation policies, can vary radically from one facility to the next. Visitors to Thailand should also be aware that there is a Tourist Police in place to assist those victimized by pickpocketing, scams, etc.

C Lim 27 December 2004
Stayed at  Rabbit Resort - Pattaya, Thailand.
If you intend to do lots of shopping, stay in the South/Central Pattaya area. You can practially walk the entire street shops. If you prefer a quiter retreat, Jomtien beach would be a better option. Taxis (tuk-tuk) from Central Pattaya to Jomtien can cost about THB100 per couple.
