R Creed 11 November 2004
Stayed at  Silom Serene Boutique Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
We travelled mainly by skytrain to the river and took boats up the river to other parts of the city. Great places to eat Himalayen Cha Cha's, Condoms and Cabbages and for a really special night out the Oriental or a dinner cruise.

C Campion 10 November 2004
Stayed at  Royal River Hotel, The - Bangkok, Thailand.
Just next door is the River Cafe for chic young 20-30 year olds. Slightly difficult traffic to arrive to the opposite side of the Chao Phraya, but traffic is so horrendous anywhere it's not a major issue!

T Amberg 09 November 2004
Stayed at  President Solitaire - Bangkok, Thailand.
Loy Krathong: It is worth staying in one of the river front hotels during loy krathong and also the few days before. There are parades of colorfull boats up and down the river and plenty of activities on Loy Krathong day itself. Preparing the Krathongs and setting them afloat on the river, firewors, major (and pricy) theme dinners in the large hotels. For example, the peninsula's main dinner locatoin (lawn) charged 4200 Baht per adult for the evening.

N Wood 07 November 2004
Stayed at  China Town Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
If you don't mind being in the Nana precinct (go go's and beer bars), there is a great steakhouse on Sukhumvit Soi 4 called 'Steak One'. They do a roaring trade to mostly farangs who I suspect (like me) from time to time, need a break from Thai food. Their lobster bisque is superb and I've never had a bad steak. Not a budget restaurant, expect to pay around 1000thb each, and more with wine which is expensive in this part of the world.

E Chew 07 November 2004
Stayed at  Ambassador Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
Usually use Ambassador as my base of operations, because you can go up to Silom and MBK or down to Ekkamei when you can board a bus to Pattaya or anyway in the eastern seaboard. There are some good shopping centres along the line and always buy the 3 days Skytrain pass because you will find it very useful and saves alot of money too.

L Zoppas 05 November 2004
Stayed at  Century Park Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Stay away from the tuk-tuks! They get paid in petrol vouchers for bringing tourists to the gem factory outlets. So no matter where you ask to go, you get taken there first! The Sky Train is by far the best bet and easy to use. If you do get into a "meter taxi", be sure they turn the meter on before th trip begins! I really liked the Pratunum Market for silk, clothing shopping...it is a wholesale market and they will tell you the best price of things right away, don't have to spend a long time bartering.

C Campion 04 November 2004
Stayed at  Anantara Resort and Spa, Golden Triangle - Chiang Rai, Thailand.
Anantara's Chef Nan offers a good market visit and cooking school with lunch of local specialities. It's a short walk to the Hall of Opium, which is one of the best small museums I've seen, and to the Elephant Camp on the grounds of the Anantara. There are no group tours offered - only private tours which become quite expensive.

T Goh 01 November 2004
Stayed at  Best Western Ao Nang Bay Resort and Spa - Krabi, Thailand.
We visited some of the restuarants in the area, e.g E-San seafood restuarant and Chuan Chim seafood resturants. Both served excellent food at resonable price.

L Zoppas 01 November 2004
Stayed at  Karon Beach Resort - Phuket, Thailand.
We are beach lovers and were so glad we chose Karon Beach over Patong Beach. Much quieter, and unspoiled and you can always get to Patong for the evening by taxi very cheaply. Mostly we were happy to stay in Karon and make use of the restaurants etc right there. Did the sea caves tour, but check and make sure you know whether you paddle the kayaks yourself or guides take you. They are 2 different tours. Also found the Muslim fishing village (part of the James Bond Island tour) very interesting. If you are in the market for fresh water pearls, I found the selection and price the best in the markets at James Bond Island (but be sure to bargain!).

M Johnson 25 October 2004
Stayed at  Indra Regent Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
S & P Restaurant at World Trade Center, 6th Floor above Isetan, cheap, great food, always serves fresh & great service too.
