R Caine 30 July 2004
Stayed at  Comfort Resort Patong - Phuket, Thailand.
Prices seem to be rising in the Patong area. Many more fixed prices are coming in - for example, you can no longer barter over watersports equipment (like jet-skis). There's still a million and one tailors, but I highly recommend Mr. Henry's, which is near the north end of the beach. They actually seem to know what they are talking about and I've been satisfied on the three occasions I've visited them.

K Browne 29 July 2004
Stayed at  Royal Princess Hotel Larn Luang, Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
We took the daily tour to Ayutthaya with the return trip by cruise, and the daily trip to Khao Yai National Park. The trip with the cruise was a great value at about 1500 Bhat per person, and the cruise was really nice. The trip to the national park was very fun and included ox cart riding and an elephant ride in the jungle. We loved this trip and reccomend it highly, but the company we used did not use a bus, but a van and it was uncomfortable and crowded. For 2300 Bhat per person we thought that it could have been a little better, but the trip is worth it for the elephant riding.

L Chiu 25 July 2004
Stayed at  Montien Hotel Pattaya - Pattaya, Thailand.
We had dinner in PIC Kitchen which was introduced by some guide books, the interior decoration of the restaurant is fantastic but the quality of food is not up to scale.

R Subberwal 25 July 2004
Stayed at  Metropolitan Bangkok Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
We flew to BKK, spent a night there at the Metropolitan Hotel and had dinner next door on the 54th floor of the Banyan Tree (great Thai food). The next day we flew over to Siem Reap to visited Angkor Wat for a few days and then over to Phnom Penh (which we found pretty soulless). We flew over to KL via BKK and then flew down to Pangkor Laut Resort where we spent a week in total relaxation (if that includes swimming, gym, yoga, tennis, squash and jungle trekking!). Then it was back to BKK where we had a fab night with friends at the Met Bar and the next day walked off our hangovers at the weekend market before heading back to London at night (only after using the pool, gym and Como spa facilites at the Met!). Fab trip. If only I didn't have to work for a living!

N Morris 25 July 2004
Stayed at  Windsor Suites Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
We had dinner at Cabbages and Condoms - a community based restaurant with the money raised being put back into Bangkok. Top food, excellent service great people.

G Knight 24 July 2004
Stayed at  Anantara Resort and Spa, Hua Hin - Hua Hin, Thailand.
As the Anantara is a bit out of the centre we hired a motorbike and used this to get around - the town, the elephant village etc. Saw places and things that we otherwise would have missed. If you are careful and drive slowly , motorbiking is a great option at only 200 baht a day. We did 200 km's in 4 days and the petrol cost us 70 baht

S Mokhtar 24 July 2004
Stayed at  Silom Serene Boutique Hotel - Bangkok, Thailand.
Bangkok is even more accessible from Kuala Lumpur with the cheap airfares offered by Air Asia, which was how I came by to Bangkok for the 2nd time in as many years at the invitation of a Thai friend. The Silom area is close to the infamous night life of Patpong but do not let this distract you from staying in the area. The area is safe and I felt very much at ease walking alone on my own at 3 or 4 am in the morning. Got around by the Skytrain mostly. Tuk-tuks and taxis are very easy to come by. The amount of 7-11s per square mile puts KL to shame!

J Li fernández 23 July 2004
Stayed at  Majestic Suites - Bangkok, Thailand.
Thailand is an incredible place which fills all your senses in smells, noise and taste! I travelled without a package tour and it is without a doubt the ONLY way to travel. I am not a backpacker by any means and enjoy travelling comfortably but after this trip I realise that it isn't uncomfortable and is the only way to really get to know the country.

With my Lonely Planet guide and a few other reviews of travellers I recently spent 3 weeks travelling from BKK to Cambodia (a must as it is so close (airplane is not expensive by European standards)and working my way up to the North and ending up in Koh Samui (lovely island but watch out as Bophut which is in the North is rather quiet and may be a little boring for those accustomed to noise. We spent 3 days in Bophut and 3 in Chaweng Beach. Just the right combination. A great experience.

T Graham 23 July 2004
Stayed at  Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa - Bangkok, Thailand.
Bangkok is great for a few days as long as you like to shop and eat. For shopping, Siam Square has the best shopping centres but don't miss Patpong for atmosphere, restaurants and night market. Also check out Narayana Phand (ChitLom BTS) for a great selection of handicrafts. We ate Western/Thai food alternatively. The Robin Hood (opposite the Emporium at Phrom Phong BTS station) has great food with friendly service. Also dined at the Bua Restaurant 1 Soi Convent, Silom Rd. a couple of times. Good Thai food at good prices. We stayed a few nights in the White House in Koh Samui. Pleasantly located hotel though didn't dine there. The beach restaurants (especially Bongoes) had very good food with 3 course meal for two, incl. drinks, for around THB600. The only tour we did was a half day "6 in 1" safari. This meant 20 mins river kayaking, same on elephant back, elephant show and monkey show, "jeep safari" and waterfall. Overall reasonable value for money (THB1200) compared to other tours and an easy way to spend the morning.

M Philpott 21 July 2004
Stayed at  Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok - Bangkok, Thailand.
One entrance of the Shangri La is right next to the Saphan Thaksin Skytrain station. This will take you to the most important tourist destinations in the east of the city for less than 40 Baht per person (60p Sterling, One Dollar US). Take the Skytrain to Phom Phrong and visit the Dalat Indochine restaurant at Thanon Sukhumvit/Soi 23. It is an experience not to be missed. When you have finished your superb meal, go to L'Arcadia antique shop on the same street, where you will find a very friendly owner with a good eye for excellent pieces from the whole region, including Burma.
