Spectacular temples and palace, fun city, be careful with people approaching you. Three obvious cons were attempted. "The temple is closed come with me I show you another temple" was standard and also "come buy tickets cheaper at government tourist office TAT, not train or bus station", at entirely different location than where TAT was indicated on map. Keep your wits about you.

This is what I did in Bangkok over three days, and had a fantastic time: Day 1: Take a ferry up the Chao Praya river to Wat Pho and the Grand Palace. Fantastic! You can catch a quick cab to the ferry pier from the hotel. Can do everything in half a day or more. Avoid tuk-tuk drivers - they're all scam sharks, and will try to take you to tourist shops where they get a commission!! Use only metered taxis. Day 2: Take the skytrain (near Montien hotel) to Jim Thompson's House and spend a couple of hours looking around his wonderful old thai home. Have lunch at Ly Lys (about 25 minute walk past Siam Centre). Then go to Lumphinee Stadium for evening Muay Thai session (thai kick boxing). Walk past night bazaar on way back to skytrain station afterwards. Excellent thai restaurants: De River Bar and The Good View (both on the river). Both heavily attended by thai locals. Day 3: Organised tour to ancient Siamese ruins at Ayutthaya. Catch an air-conditioned coach to the ancient city and a river barge back (with buffet lunch). Pleasant, informative day with spectacular entry into Bangkok by river in late afternoon. All of these can easily be done from the Montien hotel. Avoid taxis organised by the hotel's front door staff. They're VERY expensive. Simply walk 20 metres to the main road and hail a metered cab instead.

Bangkok is, of course, one of the world's great destination cities. The new subway, along with the Skytrain, make getting around easy. My favourite restaurant remains Cabbages & Condoms, on Sukhumvit 12 - excellent Thai food with a quirky atmosphere.

We only had 3 days in Bangkok, so we visited the Grand Palace, etc...on day 1. We also went to the traditional Thai dinner show at the Oriental which was fun, though a bit expensive. We went to Thai boxing which was a lot of fun and we'd recommend that highly to anyone going to Bangkok.

The best way to get around is to hire mopeds. We paid 200bht each for one days use. A great way of exploring the many beaches along the cost.

People who eat in this hotel should be aware that much better food at much more reasonable prices are available a few skytrain stations away in the Sukhumvit area or on 6th floor of the Mabukrong shopping plaza, 10 minutes walk from the Asia Hotel. Anyone who likes Mediterranean food should try the Lebanese restaurant in the basement of Ploenchit shopping plaza, near Soi 2 Sukhumvit.

Try the street food, so long as its served hot is probably O.K. and should be fine, I love the street food and the people. Patpong markets are just great, what an experience to walk around and watch and listen to these people try to coax you into buyiny there wares. The SkyTrain is great and cheap, use it with buses and mix in with the atmoshere of this wonderful city.

Stayed at  Coral Bay Resort - Samui, Thailand.
Easy and fun to hire a jeep for the day to visit some of the quieter areas of the island and easy to find deserted beaches! If venturing up to the highest level of Namnang waterfall accept the help of the local guides as it's very steep and not that clearly marked. Good restaurants found in Chaweng include the more expensive end Olivio, an Italian within walking distance of Coral Bay Resort (still cheap by UK standards) and if on a tighter budget the Long Table restaurant towards the far end of the town where we had some lovely fish and thai food. Dont forget to sample the thai massages/foot massages on the beach or main road - amazingly cheap.
