We wanted to see the "Swiss Life" building in London. First the taxi driver did not understand the instructions. Then, we said "the cucumber" and he understood immediately where we wanted to go. As we alighted the taxi, we felt the wind effect from the nearby skyscrapers and cucumber. But, we were left in the cold as a security man, duly clad in windscreen jacket as if he was set for Antarctica, cooled our expectations. No, the building is not open for visitors (in late April 2005), but, as a consolation, my husband and I received two postcards each with a picture of the famous monument. So, from the cucumber, with love!

Belfast is slowly becoming a tourist firendly city. The re-development of the waterfront makes that area a worthwhile place to walk, jog, and enjoy the outdoors. We were impressed at the quality of many of the restaurants, serving a variety of foods at reasonable prices. A night out at a traditional Irish pub such as the Crowne & Liquor is a must for any visitor.

The hotel arranged an out of town tour to Giant's Causeway, with pick-up from the hotel. The Crowne & Liquor pub, one of the landmarks of the city, was only minutes away from the hotel.

If you are willing to walk, it is a great place to move around in London through Oxford to Hyde Park, taking the underground to Buckingham palace to Westminister Abbey and the London eye to Covent Garden. All in a day's work!

London is always worth a visit!
Good to visit with children: Science Museum (basement), Museum of Natural History (earthquake simulator, dinosaurs, etc.), Kew Gardens (huge botanical park with phantastic kids corner "Crawlers & Creepers").

Try the Mussel Inn on Rose Street. Owned by Scottish shellfish farmers, food is excellent and a kilo pot of mussels with your sauce of choice is under £10. Huge scallops and other seafood also on the menu.

The London Traveler's Card provides great value. It allows unlimited travel on all public transport, including travelling to and forth Heathrow Airport, over 50% off the Gatwick Express. And if you purchase a London Pass as well, they allow you to even use trains to Windsor Castle. However, as most musuems and places in London are free to enter, the Pass is of lesser value.

London is wonderful, minus the typically wet weather. The parks are among the most beautiful in the world. Hyde Park and Kew Gardens are terrific. Did not visit museums this trip.

Hammersmith is mostly on the southwest brim of london but there is tube and bus station, so many restaurants, fastfoods and shopping mall. You'll have no difficulty to stay there.

London is an expensive metropolis. Food, entertainment and touring are all pricey. Some really good food for the price at restaurants in and around the Notting Hill, Queensway, Paddington - the nearby neighborhoods to the hotel - China Town and Soho areas. Internet suggestions not up to expectations and extremely expensive. Best to explore on own.
