Trip on the Perfume River to visit Kings tombs was excellent value at US$3.00 per person including lunch on boat. In Vietnam, always pay in Dong for entrance to places of interest. Entrance prices are either US$5.00 or VD 55,000.00(equivalent to US$4.00).

Our river trip of Hue was the definite highlight of our stay in the city. Make sure to negotiate directly with the boat owner though, as this works out far cheaper than doing it through the hotel.

Hue is an excellent base for visits to the royal tombs etc. Hue itself rather lacks charm but has good travellers cafes etc.

A Perfume River tour is definitely worth taking, but bring toilet paper with you as you won't see a toilet all day!

Hue is a great place to visit. We saw the citadel, emperors' tombs, hired a boat for the river. The restaurant scene is not as good as other parts of Vietnam, although we enjoyed the Lac Thanh Restaurant as a lunch venue.

Go to Mandarin Cafe and speak to Mr. Cuu - great guy to find out about things around town. He will set you up with everything.

* Hue is a fascinating city, and should be on any travellers' itinerary for Vietnam. * Travelled around Hue and environs by small river boat (superb), bicycle (easy and cheap), and foot. * Make sure you visit the market. * Hue food is superb. Try some of the sidewalk food stands and cafes. The least attractive restaurant that we experienced was the one at the Century Riverside Hotel. * Travelled on from Hue to DaNang and Hoi An and Nha Trang by minibus - also an easy and cheap way to travel, but a tad slow because the roads are awful (average speed is 30km/hour).

Boat trip (half day) up the Perfume River for $15 (U.S) was very enjoyable and informative. Good view of river life.
