Do visit Hue. The motorbikes are slower and more courteous than in Hanoi. You need to get out of town to look at the various emperors tombs, as well as looking at the citadel. Not much to do in the evening but a fair selection of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

Hue is a great place to visit. We went as tourist and visiting the Citadel, taking a boat down the Perfume River to temples and tombs is very interesting.

Hue remains a special place. We made the grand tour (Tien Mu, couple of the tombs) via air-conditioned taxi for twenty dollars. Well worth the price for the comfort and ease of travel we enjoyed.

Hue is a must see destination, the river cruise visiting the Royal Tombs was incredible and reasonably priced.

Royal Palace a little disappointing given the build-up to it. The boat trip along the river is well worth the trip, do the all day one, some of the tombs are a moto ride away from where the boats stop but well worth the ride at $1 for the return trip.

We organized our own tour through another tour agency, rather than the hotel, due to price. We went to 4 of the main tombs and to the Citadel and imperial palace. Keep in mind that there is USD 4 cost per person for entrance to the tombs. This is usually not covered in your tour costs so have extra money available. For us, the cost of entrance fees was more than the cost of the driver and tour guide!
Make sure to give yourself enough time at the end of the day to see the Citadel area. That way you can walk around since it is enormous. Hue can be seen in 1 1/2 days since it is small.

Hue is well worth a visit especially to see the old citadel and the mausoleums. The choice of restaurants was a bit disappointing though. The DMZ bar is a lively bar and is a good place to hook up with other travellers.
