I spent 5 days at Hoi An, Hue and Danang. The weather was very hot but all historical places was very interesting and should not miss them.
The only thing that made me very upset was the counter tours in city which did not responsible for tourists. I paid 3 USD for one way air-condition bus from Hoi An to Hue but I had an old car without A/C. The driver and his assistant can't speak English and didn't try to attend at his passengers. Everybody complained but how can we do? On my return trip to Danang, I had a confirmation form counter tour that the transportation must be A/C bus if it was neccessary to pay more, It was OK. Unfortunately,it was the same. All tourists was very disappointed. If nobody cares for this problem that will destroy all tour system there. That I don't hope so.

Mausoleums/ Pagoda trip up the Perfume River was good value at USD3 each but entrance to each of the sites proved expensive at 55,000 VND per person plus motorbike transfers costs.
Walking round the Citadel is interesting but further reconstruction is needed to make this a top attraction.

Hue was the most interesting of the cities in Vietnam. A tour round the citadel by cyclo is well worth it - as is the river trip but expect to be bombarded by lots of requests to buy souvenirs.

Hue is lovely, although as with everywhere in Vietnam, you have to be careful that you are not bilked out of excessive amounts of money once you are labeled a tourist. The Citadel is amazing, as are the various masoleums.

Do not miss Hue. It was fantastic. Two days touring is sufficient (1 for tomb tour on the Perfume river, and 1/2 for the citadel).

Hue is wonderful and interesting and taking a boat down the Perfume River to any one or all of the Tombs is well worth it.

After Hanoi, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh, Hue was a dissappointment. If you don't have a lot of time, this is the town to skip. There is a cool Imperial City, but there was constant harrassment from cyclo drivers and rude comments from people - we've been to Vietnam three times and never encountered that before.
