Great restaurant ("coconut grove") with good prices located directly on the beach across the street from the hotel; mostly travelled around town by hotel cyclo with friendly drivers who showed us around.

The Beach in NHA TRANG is ok and you may want to relax there, but there is a big problem with theft. Youngsters work in a team, one with a running motorbike, others approaching from behind and suddenly grapping what they can get and then jumping on the bike and driving away. Even if you not took valuables to the beach you might have the problem that your shoes or towel may get stolen. They even took my rubber sandals size 45 (value 3$). The police knows the problem but does nothing.
There is one kind of tour which is offered by any agency in town, the party-boat 4 island tour for just 7$. Other tours are hard to find, some diving shools offering some but have the problem that not enough people show up and have to cancel the trip.
NHA TRANG offers a good selection of restaurants and food.

Hired a car for a city tour which was a good way to go and not too expensive. There are some good sites around the city and air conditioning was essential even in January. Took a boat trip to snorkel and see various islands, if you don't have much time in Nha Trang this is not an essential trip especially if you have snorkelled in the Barrier Reef, although riding in the "fishing baskets" is a treat. A day lying on the beach eating freshly cooked seafood and being massaged was a wonderful respite to the hazdardous streets of the towns and cities but you can spend money without moving.
