Stayed at  Beach Garden Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
Langkawi and Pentai Cenang are very relaxing and quite laid back. There are sites to see but if you just want to laze and chill out that's fine too. A trip on the cable car is hair-raising but worth the visit. A visit to the seven wells requires a bit of walking and quite strenuous in the heat. We visited many restuarants, The Lighthouse and Bon-Ton slightly more expensive but both in beautiful settings especially the Bon-Ton! Narelle at the Bon-Ton invited us as day visitors to spend some time at the resort and use its facilities. Wonderful frozen cocktails and the best dessert (chocolate tort with tiramsu ) I have ever tasted!!! Please visit and say hello from Bill and Ed (the 2 Irish guys) to Uma and Theo at "Chompa Chompa" pub and restaurant. She is a wonderful, delightfully eccentric Tamil woman who will immediately make you feel welcome. She is also a great cook! Theo, also very welcoming serves a mean drink as many of our late nights can testify! Food and drink very reasonable. Also visit Debbie's Irish Pub next to Chompa Chompa. A bit of a misnomer as there is nothing to suggest an Irish pub and only qualifies as Debbie's husband is Irish. She too will make you feel most welcome.

Stayed at  Tanjung Sanctuary Langkawi - Langkawi, Malaysia.
If you stay in Tanjung Sanctuary you need a car or a motorcycle. Taxis are expensive!

B Kurien 05 May 2005
Stayed at  Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan - Pahang, Malaysia.
The action is at Cherating and while Beserah is a well located beach, there aren't too many things to do here. We took a trip to Guha Charas caves and Pancing Waterfalls, both of which were energy sapping but worth the effort. Take packed food along since there are almost no restaurants around these two spots.

Stayed at  Langkawi Village Resort - Langkawi, Malaysia.
The location is perfection if you are looking to relax or whether you are wanting to go out and do things. There are tonnes of little adventures to be had. The go-kart racing is fantastic. Waterworld interesting and they are still renovating and improving it - go so you are at the shark tank around 3pm as that's when you see a diver hop in and feed them hand to mouth. There is a great pakistani/indian restaurant up the road just beside the sun plaza shopping complex and the red tomato is a welcome taste of home. The owner is really nice and knows a lot about the area so you can ask her a lot of questions if need be. I took the Coral Island tour and went snorkeling. I CAN'T express how amazing and fun this was. The people were extremely nice and helpful and your lunch is included in the price. GREAT thing to do even if you are just wanting to laze around on the beach.

Stayed at  Swiss Garden Resort & Spa, Kuantan - Pahang, Malaysia.
It is a worthwhile trip to visit the Charah/Panching caves where you see limestone formations and the sleeping buddha. However, be prepared for a steep climb up the narrow flight of steps. Shoes are recommended and please bring bottled water along. Near the Panching caves is the Pandan waterfalls. However, the signage to the Pandan waterfalls is less clear and we had to backtrack a few times before we could reach the waterfall. We had seafood at the Berserah Seafood Restaurant (along Jalan Berserah) but had to wait a long time (at least 45 mins) before our food arrive. The food was good but the prices are not cheap. The food at the Phuket Seafood Restaurant (at Telok Cempadak Beach) is cheaper and the place is more breezy (as it is next to the beach).

Stayed at  Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel - Penang, Malaysia.
Independent travelling in Penang is almost impossible. Hardly see any cab driving pass, and the attractions (except for Penang Hill) are in quite remote places. Join either group day tours or book a van at your disposal. Average RM40 for one hour for a 10 seater van.

G Govindan / chithra govindan 01 May 2005
Stayed at  Impiana Resort Cherating - Cherating, Malaysia.
Cherating is a nice place to unwind and get away from it all. However, be prepared for a bit of a long ride after you exit the highway at Kuantan - the rest of the road is a trunk road and not as smooth. Try the Shadow of the Moon located at Pantai Cherating for a backpackers haven of food and drinks.

Y Choo 01 May 2005
Stayed at  Royale Bintang, The - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
It's not true that Bintang Walk has lots of pubs, we could not even find more than 1 pub along the whole stretch of Jalan Bukit Bintang. In the end, we went to an Irish pub along Jalan Sultan Ismail (near Bintang Monorail station) We did a lot of walking and commuted by monorail throughout our trip, which is pretty good, gave us a chance to explore the city on our own. One point to take note of is the bad traffic is KL, the drivers do not abide by the rules of the traffic light!

D Nicholls 01 May 2005
Stayed at  Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
There is a great bunch of hawker restaurants which have all the Malay, Indian and Chinese classic dishes directly behind the Concorde Hotel. They are open on weekdays. Leave the hotel, turn left and then left again at the Deutsche Bank building.

J Honor 30 April 2005
Stayed at  Renaissance, Kuala Lumpur Hotel - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
If there's more than four of you get a taxi (no more than 10 RM/$3 anywhere in center) if your on your own get moto rail go to Bombay place for a curry china town for all cheap goods-remember to hagle, at least half the price of what they are saying-tshirts for $2 and DVD's for $4.
